My first psychiatrist told me "trauma is a normal response to an abnormal experience," and I try to remember that every time I beat myself up when I get stressed out and triggered by seeing men who act and speak exactly like my abuser fuck with and gaslight the country every single day.
I remember reading how therapists are struggling with helping us in a lot of ways right now because we are reacting normally to the totally hellish nightmare world.
Like, if someone is ripping off your fingernails the proper response is to scream.

Trump withdrew the US from the UN Human Rights Council. Definitely for legitimate and non-corrupt reasons, and not because he is putting innocent people in literal concentration camps, is committing human rights violations, and the US already on international human rights watch lists.

San Angelo, TX has been using a text-based system for emergency warnings for years. It does not work consistently. They have no working sirens. Text systems discriminate against the elderly and families who can't afford cell phones, and the worst of the flooding was in the poorest neighborhoods.
The people who lost children and other loved ones in the Texas floods are owed honest answers from officials. They should be told why flash flood warnings issued hours earlier were not conveyed to people in the path of the water. They don’t need more prayers from politicians. They need answers.

There's this mindset in conservative areas that if you live in poverty, it's your fault for doing something wrong or you're lying about not having money, so you don't deserve help. We never discuss how this mindset traumatizes children long term, and we should. #poverty #trauma #discuss
