Anyway all this to say—
Ruth Wilson’s Mrs. Coulter? Incredible. Incomparable. Interesting!!! And she clearly spent a lot of time with the text because her narration of TGC (or as I knew it first, the Northern Lights) is REALLY good. She’s doing all the voices, which normally I hate, but she’s WOW

It all comes down to KST, the archetype. Four Weddings! From KST, I shall never—and hope never to—recover. Also my mum knows her distantly and when they have spent time together it kills me because WHY AM I NOT THERE and IF I WERE THERE WE WOULD HAVE A GORGEOUS AFFAIR and WHAT WAS SHE WEARING?!!!

It gets more and more intense as they get older and go from repressed/tormented to powerful, often maternal roles. Yes, it’s a little Freudian! Go away!

Ruth Wilson? Love of my life. After Kristin Scott Thomas, of course. And Fiona Shaw. And Gillian Anderson…. Fine! Fine!!! I have a very specific type. It’s older UK actresses who are beautiful, brilliant, poised/posh/proper, a little scary, and somewhat cold, with a sharp intensity within. Sue me!!

karma aside, this does sound like a fun job and at least six of my mutuals on here possess the necessary skills…

January 12, 2026 at 9:41 PM
it’s a well moneyed machine !! also if the most of those kids have had those books for over a year… does the library really even have them anymore???
January 12, 2026 at 9:40 PM
library work is really testing my knowledge of the alphabet
January 12, 2026 at 9:39 PM
We have 1600 books currently out in circulation, and 1300 are overdue. These kids are lucky we don’t do late fees!!!!

Just spent 15 full minutes reorganizing the MS library’s disordered Rick Riordan shelves — yes, he has two entire shelves and that’s not counting ANY of the books written by or with other authors, published under his imprint.

Kind of wild there has been almost no coverage of the fact that the federal government unleashed chemical weapons against literal kids *at school*.

I mean, I got kicked out of Exeter for having too much sex, if you want to put a pleasant spin on it.

Sloane Ranging in a shirt and tie that belonged to my grandfather, tassel loafers, obligatory inherited signet, and a beat-up green Beaufort. Carmilla critical edition, knocked-about fountain pen, and loose klonopin in the pockets. I look like I got kicked out of Eton for having too much sex.

I think I shelved like 200 books tonight. In Manolo Blahniks.
