Hilary Clinton over at one of those Davos/Epstein class panels arguing that Democrats are better than Republicans at deportations so perfectly, ironically, and unwittingly encapsulates how we got to this moment. Democrats need wholesale leadership change. And quick.

In a nutshell, the Dem lodestar should be: "ICE is bad, and immigration is good"
My theory of the moment: The extraordinary courage of ordinary people in places like Minneapolis is reawakening us to our social and economic ties to immigrants. It's making "love thy neighbor" cool again. That's the ultimate antidote to MAGA hate.

Thoughts on this:

Democrats should boycott the State of the Union and send Epstein survivors and people illegally detained by ICE in their place.

Watch this exchange btwn Dems leader Hakeem Jeffries and the one and only Waj Ali to start your week. A few reforms of this *militarized federal police* aren’t going to cut it.

“Jeffries threw up his arms and said “I don’t understand anything that you just said!”

“I spoke English,” Ali shot back.

Tempting as it is to mock Jeffries for his obvious failure and incompetence, it's worth noting that in some way he is authentically giving voice to the Democratic Party's decades-long failure to come up with a coherent message on immigration.
Jeffries: "The Fourth Amendment prohibition on unreasonable searches and seizures has been part of our fabric since the very beginning of our constitutional republic. It's incredible to us that Republicans have decided to draw a hard line in the sand. Judicial warrants should be required."

This guy from New Jersey supports my theory that Bruce Springsteen himself should be leading negotiations for the Democratic Party to get ICE out of our cities.

this is comically evil. brazenly anti-social. just absolute black-pilled nihilism. we will not have a republic, we will not be free, until we regulate these companies to the point where — at a bare minimum — they're too afraid to put stuff like this down on paper.

We must never normalize these ongoing attacks by DHS agents on the people they supposedly protect.

Trump, Vance, Miller, & Noem have created a culture of impunity that has led to rampant abuse and killings.

Not one more dime for this lawlessness.

(If there was a publication called "The Postmodern Times," this is how it would cover this story)
"The head of the highest-funded federal law enforcement agency in US history lied-- outright lied-- to Congress yesterday, and no one seemed to notice or care. No one that is, except a local television journalist in Colorado....."
NEW: Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons told Congress today that local law enforcement in Colorado leaked word of a raid, allowing gang members to clear out of apartments.

Those apartments were being cleared out weeks earlier.

Tonight, ICE deleted social media posts with the claim.

@gregsargent.bsky.social has intensely followed immigration issue for many years

@cnewman.bsky.social is right that "skittishness on immigrants’ rights is the norm in Washington, D.C."

That has to end

Greg provides a roadmap for Democrats - who should learn from @gelliottmorris.com too
The extraordinary public backlash to Trump's ICE raids and mass deportations suggests it's time to rethink how information warfare and political persuasion work in the Trump era. Dems have an opening to reset the immigration debate if they act now.

New piece from me:
newrepublic.com/article/2059...
How the Democrats Can Play Offense on Immigration
Typically, Democrats run for the hills when immigration comes up. But as two blue-state governors are showing, the winning play is actually to confront ICE and MAGA xenophobia head on.
