It's funny that people are like "wow this is lots of therapy loaded into a single thread" but like, this stuff wasn't part of my trauma therapy treatment lol

I just have been trying to figure out how to get people to think about themselves like I think about both myself and other people.

If you don't think you do anything pretty well, I want you to say "one little thing that makes me unique is..."

It does make their circumstances sadder, and I am always there for more emotional hurt in my horror.

My bigger sticking points were with some of the characters and their relationships with each other and other characters. You don't get a lot of their relationships outside their in-group, which struck me as odd bc even with their powerful connection [...]

Being less disorienting defined the scares better and made them more pronounced. The house is the horror, but the horror is more because of what happens in the house, y'know? (It's okay if you don't know.)

I do have to bring up a comparison with House of Leaves, which I also really liked. I easily get confused by "mindbending eldritch structure" narratives, which I suppose is the point, but I think Staircase served the horror a little bit better because it was less disorienting.

I finished reading The Staircase in the Woods by Chuck Wendig, and enjoyed it thoroughly.

I liked that the protagonists are incredibly messy, but are also doing the best with what they can in their specific situations (even if what they do is sometimes Very Bad, you understand why they did it).

So much of making a thing revolves around how the thing feels to experience.

That's not something I put a lot of thought into, but I need to. "Mindful creativity" sounds really hokey, but I think that's what to do if I want a project to have an impact.

I want just enough money to live comfortably, but not so much money I'd never be able to spend it all. There's no point in that, and it clearly turns you into a Sith lord. No thank you.

If I ever came into a lot (I mean A LOT) of money, I hope I'd retain the humility to remember being rich isn't good and distribute that wealth to the places that need it more than I do.

I hope to God I would. I think being obscenely rich is an illness tbh.

Made this for something I'm doing IRL. I'm not super strong with traditional media, but I'm going to practice until I am. Get those reps in!
