A reminder that the brutal occupation of #WestPapua and the ongoing persecution of Indigenous Papuans is a horror that is largely undocumented & invisibilised. Like so much black suffering, furthest away in proximity to Whiteness, their revolution has NOT been televised.

This new school opening in Ormiston, south Auckland next year sounds like what ChatGPT would produce if you asked it to use kupu Māori enough to look convincing of character but not actually to represent a depth of connection or care…

Special character indeed.

My amazing friend Julia Mage’au Gray’s practice is discussed in this new title by Princeton University Press.

I side-eye most yt anthropologists who write about and publish picture heavy books about Indigenous bodies, culture & practices. I’m yet to read this. Hopefully it doesn’t make me cross.

That every comment in this article is supportive of trans kids right to access puberty blockers tells you everything you need to know. In the medical community, this isn’t even a debate. No one thinks a ban is right.

The government plans to remove the requirement for school boards to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Too bad, say hundreds of schools, because they plan to uphold their commitments anyway, as Awanui Te Huia explains.

Kiddo’s orchestra played “America” from West Side Story last night at their recital and as the lyrics played in my head, I thought about how deeply America has become a place I never want to go again.

I wonder what the songs of the end of the American empire will be.

Asked my mate if the Kwila they bought for their new deck is from West Papua and part of the devastating extractive colonial violence being undertaken by Indonesia against Indigenous Pacific people and their lands, and it really dampened the mood.

Good.

I don't fuck with Pākehā dominant spaces much these days, but somehow it still surprises me when expressing experiences of race-based inequality is questioned, as if it is in fact an internalised experience, not an actual reality. This dominant race gaslighting is EXACTLY the reason why.
