A big part of the problem with the "Brontë country" conversation is that we've been conditioned to see scenery like the photo below and think "ooh lovely countryside" and not "yikes, an ecological wasteland with almost no plant life left thanks to centuries of relentless livestock farming".

Honestly as if Emily wouldn’t be glueing herself to Tower Bridge right now to protest inaction on climate change. (Charlotte in the crowd ready with the lawyer’s number for when the police get there.)
The Brontes famously of course disliked any hint of change or modern solutions to problems. This was why they put the names Acton, Currer and Ellis Bell on their novels and sent them to a London publisher. Because they were so opposed to change in the world.

Yes, he is! Here’s his latest re-arrangement of his little hot bod. Think maybe the metal of my laptop is cooling!
Neither Jack nor Ted Hughes impressed by the heatwave ☀️🥵. Sporting similar glares. #schnauzer #schnauzermuse #tedhughes #heatwave
Amid the schnauzer barking, badgers chittering! #schnauzers #badgers
What’s that noise? Grendel turning in her … um… grave/bath/swamp/boat (?)
Yes!!! Whereas I failed my Anglo-Saxon paper owing to spending the revision period verse translating The Owl & The Nightingale. Ending up writing plausible bits of narrative in between recognisable words in Beowulf! 10 years wasn’t really on the cards 🤣
MAJOR revelation this morning: what if I’m now Stage 5?

A whole new world where people survive after immunotherapy, tho technically still called Stage 4.

Stage 5 is freedom. Open. Huge. Dangerous but doable. Like space travel. *

Norman Tebitt described all day by the BBC as as colourful, controversial and a character. All the c words but never the right ones. Architect of section 28, breaker of unions and hater of multi cultural Britain. Cruelty is his legacy
Winscar Reservoir. Next ‘step’ up into the watershed source of the Don. What is the rhythm of a place? How can we write it/with/thro it? #river #riverwriting #naturewriting #placewriting #poetry #fieldtrip #phenomenology #dowhatyouvalue #dowhatyoucan #dycp #developyourcurrentpractice #donriver #don
Totally treacle source of the Don (well, where it’s first named on the map). Is it possible to write about this without comparison? Without imposing? #river #riverwriting #fieldtrip #poetry #naturewriting #placewriting #phenomenology #dowhatyouvalue #dycp #developyourcurrentpractice #donriver #don

Please, if you're a poet or a very small press founder, read this @longbarrowpress.bsky.social piece. This is what it's all about. Great work, beautifully published and presented and promoted. And carefully packaged (it takes one to know one, a careful post packer) for delivery.
How about grunting at the end of each typed sentence too? * UUGH!!! *
