The final post for my newsletter project, Steward of the Fair.

It's been a real joy to put together, and I appreciate everyone who took some time out of their days to check it out. (Shout out to my reader from Sweden, who was remarkably consistent)

I was recently chatted up by a friendly guy at a bar. When he asked what I "do," I told him I've been working on a book about how fake "self-driving" tech is killing people to make Elon Musk the richest man alive. He frowned. "People like fun stories," he said. 'You should write about Sasquatch."

they didn’t leak it to make the shooter look innocent, but to make the victim look guilty. not guilty of a crime. guilty of having a visibly queer wife. guilty of liberalism. guilty of opposing the regime. they don’t seek to exonerate themselves, only to demonstrate who deserves to die.
In the video that the shooter took, which I believe was leaked to be exculpatory, he appears to yell “fucking bitch” after he shoots Renee Good.

"He had been looking at the people of his city. So many here, and so enraged—or perhaps just caught up in the illusion of rage. The fraternity of it. The theatre. City life was often theatre."

Fave short fiction read this week was this banger of a poignant ghost story from @champwongs.bsky.social in Nightmare. Layered motifs, strong characterisation and a deft ending. Well worth your time
