My favourite trebuchet story is Edward I spending three months building one at Stirling Castle - nicknamed Warwolf - then angrily ordering the garrison back inside when they tried to surrender before he had a chance to use it at them.

Reading Holy Warriors,Jonathan Phillips' excellent history of the crusades, I learn that catapults on the opposing sides at the siege of Acre at the end of the 12th century went by names such as "Bad Neighbour" and "Evil Cousin."

Your painting certainly helps make that guy look great...but I also agree that some of the old Fantasy Regiments figures hold up well. I'm particularly fond of the Orcs and Dwarfs...finished this unit up for last Orctober...

A fun fact about these guys- the bare heads had ears that tessellated with other versions of itself so you could make a really mean looking two headed skaven.

White Dwarf 126, a classic that featured Space Marine, Space Hulk, & Marieburg for WFRP

The cover is by artist Colin Sullivan and was used, along with some more of his art, in the GW release of RuneQuest. Sullivan's work also graced the covers of the Way of the Tiger gamebooks

53. Caverns of the Snow Witch, Ian Livingstone

Revisiting the favourite Fighting Fantasy book from my youth. A really great story in this one, really feels like a proper D&D campaign. Brick hard though, some nasty fights that I couldn't see a way to avoid (that damn Birdman!)

That our entry for Blockbusters was so bad it humiliated the teaching staff in front of their counterparts at the rival local secondary schools (a serious no-no when we gloried in the best GCSE pass rates for a state school in our LEA) and the girl concerned was put on study leave immediately.
