As Trump Jr says the US will "walk away from Ukraine", let's face up to it: we should have seen this coming; Russia has deeply corrupted our GOP. This account stuck with Jan 6 because the attack was orchestrated - and also the people who promoted it were so tied to Russia. It was an act of war. 1/

Last week’s release of Trump’s National Security Strategy made one thing brutally clear and that is that the United States is no longer fully shaping its own foreign policy. The document reads like parts of it were written in Moscow and stamped in Washington

The Trump regime released its 2025 National Security Strategy—which appears to have been co-authored by the PayPal Mafia and Aleksandr Dugin.

It is a plan to break America away from the world, break the will of the people, and benefit Vladimir Putin.

David Roberts says he missed how destructive this administration would be. But studying Jan 6 taught what would happen. The Capitol attack was organized: the intent was treason. Failing to prosecute those who did it would embolden them: they would see how weak institutions were, and try again. 1/
In my world (energy policy), to a first approximation, *everyone* underestimated how bad Republicans would be this time around.

So my basic question is: has anyone updated their priors? Revised their analytical categories? Learned anything from this? Will do things differently next time? Anyone?

One thing I have to point out because a lot of people don't realize it is "the Syria test" was never a tankie/campist ID test, it was an "are you gargling Russian propaganda?" test, it just picks up tankies and campists because of course it does
The only people who endlessly complain about color revolutions are dipshit leftie campists and Q-pilled right-wingers and the thing they have in common is they're both huffing Russian propaganda
Sen. Eric Schmitt: "This is the language of a color revolution where you're calling on military men and women to disobey orders."
