The newsletter pitch: grounded deep dives into Buddhism and philosophy. ‘How to live an intentional life’ stuff + my fuckups along the way.

My latest essay as an example: looks at existential philosophy + Buddhism to find a practical way to think about the future. designyourzen.co/the-practica...
The practical way to think about the future
There are two ways to think about the future. It’s easy to fall into the less-than-helpful one.

This is true. But, also, counterpoint: beast crest, go ham.

If you're struggling with Silksong, here is a tip: It is more important to avoid getting hit than it is to hit. Every single enemy attack follows a pattern that can be identified and dodged. Patience is the key. Think of it more as a platformer than an action game and you'll have a much better time

Ahhh, that's rough. Cathy fully wearing a dress with the NY skyline to present the Liberty with their trophy made it extra weird. And they just straight up didn't stop the weirdness.

Justice for the Lynx this season.

Either! (Was a typo tho – should've been 25. Thanks for the spot.)

Same here. I just feels richer in every sense of the word (e.g. the cultural focus on singing, the sense of movement on a mechanical level). While also feeling like it's own thing. While also feeling like the logical next step in whatever conversation HK started.

It's just good art. Love that.

Finished the Arlong Park arc on the weekend and I'm so in. Love it. Thanks for the prompt to dive in.

I could see his karaoke song being "Dear Maria, Count Me In" by All Time Low (or whatever his generation's pop-punk equivalent is)

God, open-source documentation is a mess. I've been setting up a bunch of small things on a VPS and it's a slog. One day, I'll dedicate some time to rewriting some FOSS wikis.

Is this sentence – an exceptional and original, albeit slightly run-on, sentence – grammatically accurate (going purely off of your own understanding of English grammar)?

Breaking this sentence down, the core clause is "Is this sentence grammatically accurate?" The rest is dependant but not presented in a way that properly supports the core clause.

To keep the tone and intent, I'd do:

Technically yes, insofar as grammar and punctuation are two different things. Buuuuut I personally think the distinction is overplayed in writing since grammar is about structure and punctuation delineates structure.

Ugh that stuff’s gonna get served to so many people who have lost kids. Absolutely awful.

Also: go read @wtevs.bsky.social's fantastic BASKETBALL FEELINGS. Obv, what Katie does is on a whole other level but, yeah, I'm not writing about my dad and hoops with even the slightest bit of emotional vulnerability without reading a whole lot of her stuff first.

Personal highlights:

"Let’s recap the Magic from the late 90s to now: wow, oh, oh?, oh, wow, ah, ah…, wooooooooooof."

And:

"Caldwell-Pope had a real 'honeydew melon season': looked nice on the plate, disappointing once you have a taste."

In the spirit of father's day (in the US) and Orlando trading for Desmond Bane, I put together a quick article about my dad and the Magic.

He chose the Magic as his team when I was a young kid – and, honestly, never really cared about them – but I still love the team all the same.

Dug a frog pond in the backyard and spent the next 12 months giving my partner daily updates on: frog spawn, tadpoles, tadpoles with tiny legs, tadpoles with slightly bigger legs, tadpoles with full legs and tails, frogs with stubby tails, and, finally just-plain frogs.

Once again it is Father’s Day, which means it’s time to share the most Dad* thing you did in the last year. As is custom, I will go first:

Watching YouTube videos for small repair jobs around the house has turned into watching YouTube videos for large repair jobs I cannot and should not attempt.
