At Y! Sports: Wrote about the Suns, whose response to having arguably the worst future outlook in the NBA was to start focusing on kicking ass in the present: yhoo.it/48kHnit

Phoenix is off to a surprising 11-6 start in the West while building a new identity.

Amen Thompson just took an inadvertent elbow to the chin trying to stop the ball in transition, and as he fell backward, his neck snapped back and it looked like he hit the back of his head on the ground. That looked gnarly, but he got up and walked off under his own steam.

Great read from Oso Ighodaro, seeing the Rockets a little scattered in transition and finding Royce O'Neale on the skip pass for the 3.

Suns running Spain with Devin Booker setting back screens, and getting free runways for layups out of it. All that is old is new again.

probably a pretty chill convo

Just said, "Ohhhhhh, Max," like a disappointed parent when Max Christie caught the ball with his foot out of bounds down by two with a minute and a half left. I had no idea I cared. But then, I guess caring is what I do best.

I'm still getting my head around "13 straight wins for the Pistons" being a real thing. What an incredible turnaround over this past year and change for that franchise. Just a complete blood transfusion.

As role distributions for the Raptors go, "Hey Brandon, create our looks in the half-court, and hey Scottie, go just kind of be everywhere else" is pretty neat

Jarace Walker just had a chance for a pick-6 runout dunk, but he bobbled the ball and wound up just laying it up. Tyrese Haliburton gave that effort two thumbs down. Leadership, even in street clothes.

From earlier, at Y! Sports: I wrote about the Suns' bold first step in building something new from the ashes of the Kevin Durant-Bradley Beal era: fielding a team that plays its ass off and is fun to watch. (What a concept!) yhoo.it/48kHnit

If, as my pal Paul Flannery used to say, the best time you can have in the NBA is right before you get good, maybe the second-best time you can have is when, after being very unfun, you start to rediscover a spark of joy. That’s where the Suns are right now. And that ain’t nothing.

Ah, crud — had meant to link @nekiasnba.bsky.social's story about the double-team book on Wemby that the Suns were first to write somewhere in the chunk on how they swarm, send hard doubles in the post, etc.

Just spent a precious fleeting weekend night watching HEREDITARY despite not liking scary movies because I am married to someone who does like them and, if I had to guess, I'd wager I am going to be pretty upset for a pretty long while

I can get why the Hornets' decision-makers, none of whom drafted or extended LaMelo, might feel unsure about banking on someone who's rarely on the floor.

Also: Charlotte's scoring like a bottom-5 offense without LaMelo this season, and like a top-5 O with him.

Gift, curse, etc.
LaMelo Ball had 25 points + 8 assists in the Hornets' win over the Knicks last night. Charlotte's now 16-29 with him in the lineup ... and 2-22 without him.
