🧵Kid got covid Feb 2024. It was very mild, fever of 38.5C. Sore throat for a day.

But then, he kept getting recurring sore throats every other week for 3 months. And then he raced other kids one day & everything went to hell.

Absence seizures, bed bound kind of fatigue, tremors,

Imagine the parents of chronically ill children who realized that they were lied to when they were told that Covid was mild in children, and even that it was good for their immune systems. They are gonna be enraged. 5/

Interesting…if I’m understanding this correctly, POTS sufferers were more active and generally less likely to have psychiatric issues?

My kid is exactly the same. Waaaay over-active & extremely athletic. A happy go lucky kid.

Made me so angry when docs tried to claim he has bad mental health.

Prevalence and Clinical Impact of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome in Highly Symptomatic Long COVID

Prevalence and Clinical Impact of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome in Highly Symptomatic Long COVID — Mikael Björnson et al.
"we can confirm, in agreement with previous studies, that roughly one-third of highly symptomatic long COVID patients suffer from POTS, compared with an estimated prevalence of POTS in general population of 0.2% to 1%." "All groups had Frändin-Grimby scores concordant with an active lifestyle before disease onset" "In our cohort, the prevalence of comorbidities and history of psychiatric illness lies well within or below the range of the Swedish population"

That’s 2 classes of DIFFERENT children now who have all said that they enjoyed online school.

The anti-lockdown, covid is NBD, you can only have good mental health if you are in school crowd is really trying to push their narrative hard. I am relieved that kids haven’t forgotten reality.
covidcanada.bsky.social
In 2 different classes within the past month, a teacher has asked my kid’s class if ppl liked online school. The second teacher is an ardent anti-lockdown ‘online school is terrible for kids’. I’ll bet she wasn’t happy when the entire class said that they loved online class. #maskup #covidisairborne

How do we create a culture clinicians feel safe recognizing complex symptoms - and believe their young Long COVID patients instead of dismissing them?
It's time to act.

How is this even allowed???!!!!!

There is literally no critical thinking by the doctor.

In the before times, I had assumed that something this horrible would be scandalous & could never happen. But this is just going on unchecked…
covidcanada.bsky.social
So every single doc is going to ask any school attendance. And obviously, long covid kids are going to have spotty attendance. This gives rise to the ‘then their mental health must be poor because of a lack of attendance. We must get them back into school.’ It refocuses the entire convo. Everytime.
covidcanada.bsky.social
The problem is that it’s actually embedded into their script. We met with so many docs/specialists & every single one asks the same list of questions. School attendance & mental health is on that list. I got exasperated & snapped at one of the docs & he said ‘we follow a script’.
covidcanada.bsky.social
I’ve tried to explain to paediatricians just how ableist this take is. I’ve explained how my kid can’t participate and is excluded, how pushing beyond his physical limits actually causes him to be in school less, I’ve even read to them my son’s poem on long covid. Nothing gets through.
covidcanada.bsky.social
According to the sick kids philosophy, not going to school is more harmful than long covid, covid, and just any anything else. That’s why their entire goal is to get the kid back into school instead of providing medical support.
covidcanada.bsky.social
I had forgotten abt that document and re-reading that is triggering. It is so harmful to kids.

In addition to the fact that they’ve blamed it on SSRDs, they’ve also bought into the ‘school will fix everything’ mentality. Every single doc asks about school attendance. It’s part of the script.
covidcanada.bsky.social
An added layer to this is that often (for kids with long covid), it is medical doctors, not trained psychologists, who are making these diagnoses.
covidcanada.bsky.social
It is not at all when people normally drive 10 over the limit of 50km/hr going 60….and are now forced to drive 40km/hr. I’m happy to go slower through these areas so I can stop in time when the kids sprawl everywhere.
covidcanada.bsky.social
After hours, the kids in the community still go to the playground at the school. Many schools have after hours daycares.
covidcanada.bsky.social
School zones are not performative. Groups of kids tend to gather in front of schools, especially at drop-off, recess, and pick-up, and are more likely to dart across the road. Even with fences, balls are kicked onto the road (just happened last week) and kids take risks to get them.

I made a series of memorials for Charlie Kirk so we could remember his words...
We made a huge mistake when we passed the Civil Rights Act in the 1960s.

It needs to be said that by rebranding Charlie Kirk's views as moderate by both right wingers and liberal cowards resets the extremist views he held as normal and pushes the Overton window to the far right

@mark-carney.bsky.social this is WRONG.

It is morally correct to oppose violence.

It is also morally correct to oppose honouring white supremacy.

Jesus Christ.

A standing ovation — from Liberals too — for Charlie Kirk in the Canadian House of Commons.

You can (and should) oppose political violence without doing all this, you know.

I hadn’t seen this. Kirk, the moderate free speech guy who did politics the right way per some liberals (!), called for Biden to be executed.

Meanwhile Joe Biden put out a very strong statement condemning Kirk’s killing.

Both sides!

It’s actually not a bad idea these days 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is one of those business ideas that is all about timing. I have a feeling that it’s going to be successful.
