And the rain is back. We had a small enough window of no thunderstorms so that I could run out and bring in the rubbish bins, and close the glasshouse door.

In this week's gardening blog post I ordered soapwort, and a bunch of other natural dye plants, from Kahikatea Farm. I plan to do a lot of natural dyeing this summer...

A bonus blog post this week because I'm in the December 2025 issue of the New Zealand Gardener magazine talking about my adventures in growing sugar beet for making my own sugar.

A November dahlia update in this week's gardening blog post. Yes, I bought more dahlias, but I had really good reasons to do so...

In this week's gardening blog post I share how I planted out all my garden seedlings and dahlias in pots out into the garden. It finally gave me enough space to plant out my tomato plants in the glasshouse.

No, I don't want to talk to virtual AI customer service, I want to talk to a real person about why my package has left the Dunedin depot, but isn't being delivered to me, but instead is going back to Auckland 😡

Heads up Dunedin friends, looking very dark and rainy to the NW of us. Rain is imminent.

Ooh thunder!!!

‘Experts’ on saving for retirement in New Zealand never talk about low wages or extortionate rents and childcare costs. Telling people to save, while supporting the status quo that makes it impossible really grinds my gears. #nzpol

I'm all dressed up, my makeup is on, and my hair is as tamed as I can get it. I just need to stay cool and not lose my make up between now and when the NZ Gardener photographer comes.

I have my craft room heat pump set to Antarctica right now 🤣

I'm getting my mug shot taken for a NZ gardener magazine article about my adventures in sugar beet growing next week.

I'm going to freak out about fashion choices between now and then 😬

Strongly advise against lighting solid fuel heaters over the next couple of days. Whilst you may think "Oh it's an enclosed burner, it'll be fine", heavy winds can draw embers up and out of flues.
Just rug up and chuck on a heat pump or other electric heating if you can.

Seriously.
