I wouldn't mind running a distro on separate hardware for different purposes, at least to try it out, but I can't afford to change my single old laptop which I use for EVERYTHING including work

my wife LOATHES it but she has to use it for work, so maybe she'd like it after a good debloatter. Anyway this cycle has been repeating for ages: new windows comes out, it sucks, people cling to the old one until the new one becomes usable thanks to the community (and microsoft, sometimes)

Just in case this gets found anyway by someone who desperately wants to “help”, I’ve already checked and some crucial stuff I use for work has no compatibility. Learning other software has a steep curve which I might tackle anyway. I’ve got an engineering degree and worked in dev for years jsyk

I’m sure L*nux has gotten better in the years I haven’t used it. I’m also sure if I don’t censor it I’m gonna get swarmed by people whose life mission is to make everyone switch and cannot fathom the idea that someone might say no. Hopefully in 3 years the genAI bubble will have burst disastrously
