Most likely but it depends— rarely they can be fertile if the testes are formed from cells that are all XY only. He’s been fixed regardless, though, because even if XXY cats are infertile, they will still usually develop all the other phenotypical sexual problem behaviors like spraying.

It’s likely that this cat has a somatic mutation, which is not uncommon on red-based animals (cats, dogs, and horses all have somatic mutations more often with red-based coats) His non-somatic cells are XY, but the cells that have mutated picked up an extra X chromosome, expressing in small patches.

We got to meet the most unique little boy yesterday, he’s with our partner rescue. At first glance, he looks like a regular orange tabby. But take a closer look, & what seems like grease smudges is actually (drumroll)— small mixed tortoiseshell patches!! This little guy has 1:3000 XXY chromosomes.

The kids are alright!
After the devastating flood, we were lucky - the typhoon didn't cause further damage in our #catshelter. With the weather improving, we can focus on cleaning and repairing all the damage caused by the #flood.
Look at our happy kitties, finally able to be in the garden again! 😻

Simba & Pepper are doing really really well. Still having diarrhea but it’s improving, and they both are eating like proper kittens again. Today was the first day Simba gave me the sweetest purrs and meows! They are officially both panleuk survivors ❤️
