It's nothing personal, but IT doesn't know you and they are going to assume every user is as smart as the average user. Hence asking seemingly ridiculous questions. They ask you that because that has been the issue in the past.
I’m not the most tech savvy person but I CAN tell when a computer is plugged in to a working outlet. You don’t need to ask me three different ways.

A widespread fraud has been reported recently whereby seemingly sealed Switch games, among them many Mario games, contain a googly eye instead of a game (to mimic the cartridge rattling). Please check all games at the counter after buying to ensure the presence of the cartridge.
