A bunch of people followed me these past few days, welcome and thank you!! I mostly draw Star Trek, (but I do get obsessed with other stuff occasionally). I am working on commissions right now and have a few projects I work on when I can

Robert McCall was an illustrator for Life Magazine and other publications, but is best known for being NASA’s primary artist for many years. He had a lifelong love of aviation and spaceflight, and the pre-production illustrations he made for Star Trek: The Motion Picture are marvelous.

Making an artbook really is a WIP hell of your own making, but we must endure

This evening I have been researching what paints animators used in the 70s, as you do. 🧵

I wanted to identify exactly what colours Filmation would have used in their TAS artwork. Seems like they used Cel-Vinyl, going by the codes used on spec sheets. I found a handy hex value spreadsheet too!

I haven’t watched Starfleet Academy yet, but did I spy with my little eye some previews of the Klingon character hunting with a bow and arrow?

always good to remember that every artist you have ever looked up to used references, never let people on the internet tell you otherwise
This is great. The boy holding the shade in the photo is also the boy in the painting.

All this talk about He-Man reminds me once again of the incredible work of Earl Norem whom I adore deeply

I also don’t share this optimism at all, I think seeing AI outside of the internet makes me a lot angrier than online. I see it on local news all the time, flyers, book covers, see people talk about it on the street see people use ChatGPT on the bus, it’s infiltrated everywhere I look
I’ve seen a lot of people share the sentiment that AI getting more pervasive could be good because it will make everyone get offline. I don’t share that optimism! I have seen nothing to indicate that online spaces getting worse encourages people to leave them—in fact, I think we’ve seen the opposite
