I mourn the fact that men who are caring + equal partners are not more of a reality ๐Ÿ˜ข

I must also point out that this showโ€™s portrayal of masculinity is top notch. I always hated the bumbling husband trope in basically every form but itโ€™s mostly highly competent, emotionally intelligent, and loving kings from here on out ๐Ÿ‘‘
itโ€™s a show about three generations of women on Jeju Island, from a haenyeo grandma to a first gen college student in Seoul. Lots of great historical and cultural backdrop, and absolutely incredible characters / story arcs

oh ha whoops very germane to our earlier conversation about media industries

In terms of whatโ€™s understood to be socially acceptable behavior, normalizing the filming/taking pictures of people in public who are minding their own business (and putting it online) is one of the worst developments of the past 15 years.
Woman Hailed as Hero for Smashing Man's Meta Smart Glasses on Subway
A New York subway rider has accused a woman of breaking his Meta smart glasses. She was later hailed as a hero.

absolutely iconic introduction
"...Newsom has vetoed our menopause bill, not one but two years in a row. But that's OK, because he's not going to be governor forever. And with the way he's overlooked women, half the population, by devaluing us in midlife, he probably should not be our next president either."

as annoying as it may be for people to mistake โ€œThailandโ€ for โ€œTaiwan,โ€ Iโ€™m sorta pleasantly surprised that no one has ever remembered me as being from China
December 4, 2025 at 9:52 PM
This is such a beautiful piece by @liao.shen-yi.org abt media portrayals of Taiwan + how Taiwan is constructed in political / intellectual discourse. Pocketing it to periodically send to people, esp those who want to talk to me about Thailand :)

Stop the Epistemic Marginalization of Taiwan
Media coverage of Taiwan marginalizes it, politically and epistemically

yes!!! Thatโ€™s a much better framing than I wrote. I also made the mistake of looking up some of the discourse on the other site and the proliferation of โ€œif youโ€™re doing well academically, how can you have a learning disabilityโ€ is a lot and I am ๐Ÿซฃ

I still believe in the idea of learning 100% non AI writing as a way of learning how to think independently but maybe thatโ€™s an uninformed take too, idk
December 4, 2025 at 6:18 PM
I havenโ€™t tested this out yet, but Iโ€™m thinking of having them write the first draft in class so I can at least see their 100% non AI writing even if they donโ€™t finish in 2 class sessions, then let them use AI (or not) in their revisions and final product
December 4, 2025 at 6:16 PM
Iโ€™m wary of this and Iโ€™m afraid that I will end up using these too ๐Ÿ˜ฅ as much as I want to avoid an adversarial relationship to students where I assume theyโ€™re all using AI, it just doesnโ€™t feel practical anymore to assign take home essays if the goal is to teach students to write on their own
December 4, 2025 at 6:13 PM
I totally agree! I feel like there are sort of default accommodations like extra exam time but whether or not they actually help is a totally different issue
