one of the most traumatic things about my diss was: i composed in Scrivner and Pages, one of my advisors only worked with Open Office, and my other advisor only worked in regular Word. every time i exported (different!!) files for them the formatting would get turbo fucked and i woud die.

i like hyperrealism bc i trained to be a scientific illustrator in undergrad (which i didnt pursue) which meant i learned all about the tools and techniques that make hyperrealism possible! its lots!! there are so many neat objects and things!! its not just you drawing stuff all on your own!!!

this is why i tell students they need to develop critical tech studies methodologies that dont rely on people talking to you or you getting access to internally held data. you make that deal, you're trapped and your work is hamstrung from the start.
