'A fish rots from the head down'
8th commandment: You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not tell lies about our neighbor, betray him, slander him, or hurt his reputation, but defend him, speak well of him, and explain everything in the kindest way.
"Trading their God for a Hero / Forfeiting heaven for Rome." - Jon Guerra, "Citizens"
We'd have to define "successful." There's India. But given its sharp turn to Hindu nationalism and a more authoritarian regime, was that a success? Maybe Singapore? South Africa, possibly? I look at my native Quebec, though, and I don't see how such a change would improve things at all.

True revival begins with the people proclaiming, by word and deed, “I have sinned.”

MAGA Christianity has a different message. It looks at American culture and declares, “You have sinned.” www.nytimes.com/2025/10/16/o...

"The men of the town said to Joash, “Bring out your son, that he may die, for he has broken down the altar of Baal and cut down the Asherah beside it.” But Joash said... “Will you contend for Baal? Or will you save him?... If he is a god, let him contend for himself.” Ju 6:30-31

Those of us in Canada need to start fighting for what we already have. Canada as a "republic"? Show me where that change has worked out.
It's Thankgiving Day here in Canada - eat all the cured meats and cheeses you want, as long as you're thankful for them!
Recognize that few people want to listen to this from us, so it gets pretty lonely. Christian Nationalism is a lot more "profitable" than Christian truth. Always has been.

"We can never tell how patient or humble a person is when everything is going well with him. But when those who should co-operate with him do the exact opposite, then we can tell. A man has as much patience and humility as he has then, and no more."
—Saint Francis of Assisi
As I wrote this I actually wondered, "is the loon the back or the front?" The toonie joke about the Queen with a bear behind should have reminded me which is which!
In Canada we call our one dollar coin a "loonie" because it has a loon on the front. If you're looking for names for the new coin feel free to borrow ours.
"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name... I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

We should probably worry
less about what counts as pro-life in American discourse
and more about what counts as neo-paganism.
I’d start with the systemic vilification of compassion and mercy, all of which affects the poor and vulnerable, from the unborn to the abandoned elderly.

At what point will we realize that a new global war is underway? We need to understand the extreme danger that we are in so that we don't stumble further into the darkness.
My latest.

When Did the New Global War Begin?
This past week, Russia escalated its incursions into European and North American airspace.

I had an agnostic Jewish friend who kept the passover but skipped "the God parts." This is a whole class of "Christ"ians who "do the religion" put skip the "Christ" parts.
Wouldn't his analogous position in the Canadian system be chief of staff of the PMO? Powerful yet unelected. But at least the PM could, in theory, lose a confidence vote if their PMO CoS was a problem and the PM wouldn't dismiss him or her.

Jesus: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing”
So many reject darwinism in theory but rely on it in practice. "They would have died anyway," "poverty weeds out the less successful," "they should stay in their own country," etc. The intersection of "unconvinced by Darwinism," "grateful for vaccines," and "believes in climate change" is small.
