Last week, we were honored to send a delegation of 40 DSA elected leaders and rank-and-file members from chapters big and small across the country to #Cuba, where they delivered hundreds of pounds of solidarity aid and learned about the achievements and challenges of Cuban socialism.

Demands
1. Honor daily minimum 5 hour out of cell time
2. End unjustified lockdowns
3. Ensure daily fresh air access
4. Provide shower access after recreation
5. Address inadequate mental health andedical care
6. Ensure access to updated legal resources
7. Ensure food adequacy, safety, and sanitation
8. Guarantee fair job assignment practices
9. Address low pay and commissary price increases
10. Ensure privacy when using the restroom
11. Enforce equal standards for substance use by staff and incarcerated individuals
12. Address repeated violations of the Prison Rape Elimination Act and the First Step Act
13. Stop the flow of drugs and staff abuse
14. Provide functional hot pots for food preparation
15. Promote fair use of appliances

Statement on recent hunger strike updates:

Beginning on July 7th, several men incarcerated at Cheshire CI began a hunger strike in response to ongoing inhumane treatment and conditions at the DOC and from DOC staff. Following new reports of suicides inside the Cheshire facility, CT DSA reaffirms our solidarity with those still on hunger strike at Cheshire, as well as with groups such as BLM860 and Guided by Purpose that have been continuously combating abusive DOC practices and organizing around issues of mass incarceration, prisons, and policing.

We call on all of our members to support the efforts of the strikers by continuing to call and email the following contacts to demand the end of DOC torture and retaliation, and to push for the demands of the strikers to be met. We also urge everyone to show out at a rally from 6-8pm on 9/3 at Cheshire CI (900 Highland Ave, Cheshire) to demonstrate our support for those striking as well as for every person impacted by the criminal justice system in our community.

We call on Governor Ned Lamont, DOC Commissioner Angel Quiros, and all those listed in the following slides to use their power and influence to end DOC violence, enforce the PROTECT Act, end the retaliation against strikers, and meet the demands of those striking.

Movement towards socialism requires not only solidarity with every person incarcerated in our state, in our country, and across the globe, but also the centering of abolition in our work.
