Hi, I’m David Plaxco. On this account, I share aesthetic solution states of n-layer Rubik's cubes. Otherwise, I teach math at UGA, research undergraduate mathematics education, and try to make my experiences here on earth more meaningful.

Here are four ways I’ve found to solve an nxnxn cube to embed a trefoil knot. Five layers is the smallest cube I’ve been able to put this knot on. On a 9cube, I’ve found solutions that use 2 colors of thread, 2 faces, and a solution that leaves the reverse side solved as solid colors.

FYI: Tanya Khodorovskiy painstakingly made these wonderfully symmetric knot projections and identified the tangle knot arrangement to show a radius of 3. Follow her at @cubicskies.bsky.social for great Rubik’s cube art!! She’s a much more active cuber these days than I am.
Project update:
Tanya and I have been writing up the results of this project and we've realized that all of the knots in this class of patterns are at most 6 "tangle moves" from each other and at most three tangle moves from what we're calling the "great-great-granny knot" (see alt text).

Voting NO on the DHS funding bill is the bare minimum.

Backing Kristi Noem’s impeachment is the bare minimum.

Holding law-breaking ICE agents legally accountable is the bare minimum.

ICE is beyond reform. Abolish it.

The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.

"Because of your accent."

The National Science Foundation sign on our Eisenhower Av building is now gone.

The NSF mural in the foyer is removed and torn off in sheets.

We were supposed to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the agency in May 2025. That never happened.

I've been very happy to join the #illustratingmath community for a couple weeks and rather jealous of all this because I can't stay for the whole semester. Thanks @msmathcomp.bsky.social for documenting the journey!
This was the first #illustratingMath week of our trimester, "Illustrating as a mathematical research technique" at the Institut Henri Poincaré in Paris. (indico.math.cnrs.fr/event/13123/...). We had a great first week. Here are some highlights (1/4).
