"they 'hardly slept' for several weeks while writing AI prompts" Are we supposed to cry for them? #slop
McDonald's has released an AI-generated Christmas ad

The studio behind it says they 'hardly slept' for several weeks while writing AI prompts and refining the shots — 'AI didn't make this film. We did'

Over the years I've spoken on behalf of the nurses union, or as a nurse at countless protests. Today I spoke at the #BlockTheBan protest in Tamaki in response to our government banning puberty blockers for trans kids. Unlike any other protest I've spoken at, this time I was immediately in tears.

With all the horrible news coming out of the UK I would just like to reiterate that the President of Ireland celebrated Trans Day of Remembrance, and the Irish minister for health, the not particularly leftwing Jennifer Carroll McNeill, has spoken against the UK's cruel treatment of trans people.

A male rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) in winter plumage.

Ptarmigan is from Gaelic 'tarmachan' meaning "croaker". The p- was added when people mistakenly assumed it was a Greek word.

A bird forever warning people: "A werewolf!" (just in case of werewolves).

The attacks on trans rights, which are basic human rights, are a terrible injustice and an attack on truth and fact as well. Everyone should be deeply alarmed and it should be disqualifying for a politician to support such discrimination.

We've had a lot of rain today and it's still coming down! Don't mind it as we can really use some rain this time of year.

Worldwide mortality experience since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2024) shows excess deaths over that period in almost every country measured. Australia (+6%) was below average, and New Zealand (+0.1%) the lowest we measured.

The "Post-COVID-19 Cognitive Impairment" section in the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine report is worthy of reflection.

As is the question of why we don't hear about it from the institutions that told us it was safe to ignore COVID.

AI usage: 87% of executives use AI for work; 57% managers; 27% of employees.

This is both easy to believe and easy to misinterpret. AI is *genuinely* useful if what matters is FORM. Terrible at SUBSTANCE.

If useful for your job = your job just form.

80s grad here. can confirm.
In honor of Larry Summers, I asked the female members of my college class (1987) to say if they had any experiences with sexual harassment by teachers/professors, back when this was tolerated as, I dunno, the cost of attending college, and OH MY GOD.

Yes! I still have fond memories of my 2-night cruise from Copenhagen to Oslo and back (including a day tour of Oslo) that @ricksteves.bsky.social suggested for my limited time in Scandi! Cheaper than 2 nights' hotel! (at least it was back in 1995 when I did it!)
The @ricksteves.bsky.social shoutout in tonight’s episode of #Pluribus 😆
