“A study, published on Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine, showed that last season’s 2024–2025 mRNA COVID vaccines reduced people’s risk of emergency department visits by 29%, their risk of hospitalizations by 39% & their risk of death by 64%”

Benefits were seen even if 0 risk factors

Annual COVID Vaccines Protect People against Severe Disease, Even with Prior Immunity

"The new research also “calls into question the idea that younger individuals and those without risk factors don’t need the vaccine,” Viswanathan says."
Annual COVID Vaccines Save Lives, New Study Shows

If you’re an older adult, you have a story to tell about a time before routine vaccinations for contagious childhood diseases.

Please share your stories with the young adults in your life who have never seen these diseases.

So excited to hear about this group - thank you! The links to your Facebook and Instagram pages don’t work from your website and couldn’t find them in a search on those platforms. Will they be up soon? Looking forward to helping the effort! Already signed up!

Respect you both enormously and enjoyed this conversation. Not surprised by your continued optimism - I’m fighting for my children and grandchildren, too. Thank you for all you do and have done for public health.

Many of these senators are lawyers, right? Surprised by the lack of fact checking of Kennedy’s lies in real time by most. Do your homework and don’t ask a question if you don’t know the answer & can prove the witness’s response is a lie in real time. Fact checking in news articles is much too late.

Immunity wanes from both infection & vaccines, which is why a yearly (or more often) vax matched to the current variant has been the recommendation up to now. “Healthy” people still risk long COVID, time out of work and school, and spreading to the vulnerable - reason enough for universal access.

Everyone in public health, healthcare and biomedical research has been screaming this for months. It’s time for RFK Jr to go. Everyone, please, please get on the phone to your members of Congress. Call them every day. This man is that dangerous.

I have commented for previous ACIP meetings and look forward to doing so this time. More important than ever! Thanks!

Is it still helpful to have a risk-based recommendation if most of the population (>74%) is considered “at risk”? 😳 I’m guessing most people don’t know this (and don’t know if they are in that majority group).

For the data nerds out there, here's a chart of the largest coordinated protests in U.S. history from my 2018 book HOW TO READ A PROTEST

Today's "Hands Off" protests, in 1000+ locations around the country, rank as one of the very largest decentralized days of protests EVER.
MARCHING EVERYWHERE: The Largest Coordinated Protests in US History. A chart with detailed information about 8 different massive days of coordinated protest in U.S. history. Apologies that there is not room here to copy all the data. But the upshot is that today's Hands Off mobilization stands out for the number of locations where protests took place. A map of the United States with a sea of red dots fully covering the blue background except in some of the most rural areas of the country. Beneath the map are the words "Map and List of Nationwide 'Hands Off' Protest Locations on April 5

This was a tough episode to listen to - but so important. We all need to speak out against the dismantling of public health.
