Every student, every lesson
When we allow the loudest voices to dominate classroom conversation, we neglect to show respect and dignity to all our students, forgetting that every voice needs to be heard.

Ever since Tom Dean’s killer presentation at #PiXLMaths conf on Tuesday, I’ve been obsessed with those sticky math mantras that make exam answers pop!

I've seen something like this before but can't find anything on it so i've put this together - GEMs assessment review.
Ss review their assessments identifying the nature of their errors

Gaps in knowledge
Exam technique
Misconceptions

Going to try this with Y11 following mocks

After PiXL conference yesterday I have been thinking about exposing students to mark schemes and getting them to be in the shoes of an examiner more often.

Here's my dodgy solution to a CP1 series question, i'll give it to my class to mark and spot the mistake(s).

This will hopefully give students an indication of which universities are more or less flexible on their entry criteria, to help them make their choices. Subjects are in tabs along the bottom (eg Maths, Physics, Comp Sci, etc) The data is for 2026 entry. wykecollege-my.sharepoint.com/:x:/g/person...

In #MathsToday I ran a lunchtime session with some year 12 students where we looked at this activity. Trying to get them into the mindset of "just trying things and talking about what you're doing", with the eventual idea of leading to Oxbridge-interview-style questions

There's water trapped in this train window, and here's how it sits when the train
• moved at a constant speed
• accelerated out of the station
• decelerated coming into the station
Which is which? How do you know?

The episode of The Simpsons where Lisa babysits Bart:

Bart hates what he considers the undeserved authority of Lisa so does everything he can to undermine her and make her look incompetent.

Now, to me, that's a better explanation of bad behaviour in schools than unmet needs.

Apparently receipt paper contains a compound chemically similar to estrogen. So some boys are refusing to handle receipt paper with their bare hands lest it impact their masculinity.
