March is #NationalReadingMonth, and I thought it might be fun to try to post a sentence or two every day this month about a different book/series that’s stuck with me throughout my life. Most will be sci-fi or fantasy, but maybe one will catch someone’s interest and I’ll introduce a new favorite 📚
I love Pokemon. I play every game on release and enjoy nearly all of them, but that doesn’t change the fact that almost every single one feels incredibly low-effort and like a beta for what should be a way better game. It’s the most consistent “two steps forward, one step back” franchise there is.
OK but why have I seen no one talk about how Legends Z-A has a beautiful woman who Naruto runs away immediately after meeting you? Emma my love
If we get raptured before Metroid Prime 4 releases honestly just send me to hell
If I get an ad within the first minute of a YouTube video, there’s like an 85% chance I’m closing that video and moving on to something else.
I just subconsciously read “gif” as “jif” for the first time in my life and I feel like I’ve betrayed myself on a foundational level.
Slug bug, but instead of a VW Beetle it’s a Cybertruck and instead of punching your buddy you just throw up.
Gantu’s just shoehorned into the last 10 minutes to give us a fun climax to the film. Up until that point, Jumba is the closest thing to a villain the movie has.
Lilo & Stitch is my favorite Disney movie. The people yelling “THeN wHO’s ThE viLLaiN?” don’t know what they’re talking about.
The original HAS. NO. VILLAINS. Gantu, Bubbles, Grand Councilwoman? They’re all just people doing their jobs. Gantu’s just a dick and not a “villain” until Stitch the Movie
Captain Gantu will not appear in Disney’s live-action ‘LILO & STITCH’ film.

It amazes me how #TheWheelOfTime show can make the most insanely asinine decisions in season 1, completely ignore them the next season, do it again for season 2, and then go on to make season 3 genuinely awesome.

My morbid curiosity has turned into genuine excitement and it’s insane.
I think the thing I hate most about April Fools’ Day is when a game implements a legitimately cool feature as a “joke”, and then removes it afterward.
Hurts my feelings ( ._.)
With that, this thread for #NationalReadingMonth comes to an end.

Thank you to everyone who followed along; honestly surprised I never forgot a day.

I hope I was able to pique at least one person’s interest in a new book or author/creator, or at least inspired you to look for more 📚 #booksky
[Day 31] The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien

Probably the most obvious book here, but nonetheless important. Many of the books in this thread would not exist without this one. It’s my personal favorite of Tolkien’s work, and a great intro to fantasy. Beautifully simple, with unmatched world building.
[Day 30] Maus by Art Spiegelman

I think a lot of people know what this book is about, but maybe feel like they’ve got the gist of it and so never actually read it. If you haven’t, I think this is such an important story for everyone to experience. It’s dark, haunting, and so incredibly real.
[Day 29] Tigana by @guygavrielkay.bsky.social

This is one of the most well-written fantasy books I’ve read. It’s pretty slow-paced, but each scene is written so beautifully that it never drags on. I love when an author can make an otherwise mundane scene engaging, and GGK is one of the best at it.
[Day 28] A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers

One of my favorite stories ever. It’s just a super chill read about life, nature, and community. There’s so much heart and optimism in this book, I highly recommend it to anyone who feels like they’re just barely keeping their head above water.
[Day 27] 11/22/63 by @stephenking.bsky.social

Going along with my affinity for time travel plots, this is one of the best there is. My favorite aspects of King’s writing are his character work, dialogue, and near-tangible tension he builds in his scenes. This book has the best examples of all three
[Day 26] This is How You Lose the Time War by @amalelmohtar.com & @maxgladstone.bsky.social

Usually, I’m not big on romance plots. Time travel, though? That gets my attention. This book takes such a unique approach with both that it really won me over. Engaging and thoughtful from start to finish.
I totally get it. It’s really hard to get hooked when there’s not a lot of story/stakes to draw you in.
I’d definitely recommend giving it a try though! Super chill to just sit and read with a cup of coffee. Especially if you’re coming off of a super long series like Throne of Glass lol
[Day 25] Legends & Lattes by @travisbaldree.bsky.social
My favorite sub-genre of fantasy is the cozy, low-stakes, slice-of-life style of fantasy. There are plenty of early examples out there, but Legends & Lattes is probably THE reason we’ve been getting a lot more lately. Its praise is well-earned
