back just to say I’ve finished about half of the re-translation—posted it earlier today! includes one of my favorite paragraphs of Horkheimer’s that I’ve worked on in a long time (one of those where all the communism comes rushing in all at once!)

Speaking of inexcusable: the EU out of the gate with a nonsensical statement.
I have spoken with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and our Ambassador in Caracas. The EU is closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela.

The EU has repeatedly stated that Mr Maduro lacks legitimacy and has defended a peaceful transition. (1/2)

The Imperialists will not stop until they're stopped. There is no norm or law which can tame total impunity. Impunity has no conscience. It has no need of one. The only way to stop them is ultimately for the apparatuses of impunity to be broken and their commanders' power nullified.

Read Cam’s excellent blog on Adorno and the “non-conceptual,” and how that is also related to the question of the party!

This will be a somewhat didactic post, but as much as possible, it really is the time to make sure you’ve a robust account of racism, sexism, ableism, and so on. Study the history thoughtfully and abandon easy notions, especially with the return of race science. It’s returning for a reason.

2025 in the UK in a nutshell, folks: some of the country's most odious racists, who also never shut up about free speech & the right to offend, calling for a man from a racialised minority to have his citizenship cancelled over alleged racist speech, while the media dutifully jots it all down
Home secretary urged to strip activist of British citizenship
Shabana Mahmood is facing growing calls to revoke the citizenship of British-Egyptian dual national Alaa Abdel Fattah after the emergence of social media posts.

New from @crittheoryworkgrp.bsky.social:
“EP 8: The Anime Question
The CTWG's Anime Subcommittee convenes for a holiday discussion of Marc Steinberg's book 'Anime's Media Mix' (ft. Hatsune Miku)”

As you can see, we are trailblazing culture industry discussions. Adorno-sensei would be proud.

Note to future researchers. History of biology is probably the craziest and most interesting history of science (you essentially have to deal with all of them), but god damn is it not good for someone’s health, especially the late 19th century and like all of the 20th century.

“Prez Towers, a former execu dean at Parsons, said he believed the plan would lead to more innovations in the social sciences. He said he wanted to bring in more cultural and intellectual leaders from NYC to serve as part-time instructors + to reimagine doctoral education to make it more relevant…”
