I work in a dog daycare and I have that realization every single day: that I do things for dogs that aren't even mine that I wouldn't do for my own family.

Yesterday I pulled an enraged pit bull off of a baby hound that he was legitimately trying to kill. Didn't even hesitate.

I had to break up a dog fight today. If the aggressor wasn't wearing a harness, it would have killed the other dog. If my reaction time was two seconds slower, a dog would have died. I shut myself in a room with a murderously violent dog because it doesn't attack women. For minimum wage.

This is Duncan. I rescued him from an abusive home. He's going to his forever family on Friday.

His abuser is getting married on Friday.

After so, so much more time, energy, and money than I was expecting, the first of my two rescue dogs is going home on Friday. I'm buying him some treats and toys and may or may not be crying in the middle of PetSmart
