Just saw a cop car roll through a light where they really shouldn’t have. LA traffic: Orange is the new Yellow.

Was thinking abut the differences between how Marvel treated BLACK PANTHER - where they may have given Coogler more creative control because they’re white and didn’t micromanage - and CAP 4 - where they didn’t hire a strong director and added Harrison Ford - and how that’s a kind of racism.

I love TROLL 2, but 4K is such a perverse modern format where marketability trumps even modest quality. I might be tempted if it came with a “VHS version” where it looked like a Good Times SLP retail tape. There is no obscure and/or bad Altman/Hawks/etc. film that wouldn’t be better served.

Was thinking about that Mikey kid, and I don’t how long it’s been since I had some, but now I could really go for Life cereal. Thanks, Mikey. I guess.

One of the ways our country has gotten demonstrably worse is that only things that used to be open on Holidays like Thanksgiving were gas stations and - like - a handful of restaurants.

The standards for conservatives is similar to the standards for blockbusters, as the standards for liberals is similar to the standards for non-franchise art. The former often achieves success while skirting doing the barest minimum, while the latter often has to be exceptional.

NW: ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST. I’ll be honest, I prefer films like FIVE EASY PIECES where it’s about a complicated but attractive asshole who emotionally Godzillas their way through life than movies about jerks who - because they are free, but also assholes - are martyred… BY THE MAN.

When I was four or five years old I painted a cat blue so you could say I’m the father of AVATAR.

If RUSH HOUR 4 happens, then there will be a subset of people who will be like “whatever, I enjoyed it” and they’ll probably get online defensive about it.

One fascinating thing about KNIGHT RIDER is that David Hasslehoff is so blandly handsome. He acts, I guess, but he’s sort of like what you’d think of Adam West if you didn’t get what Adam West was doing. It’s so perfunctory it’s almost hypnotic. It’s as if a guy in a shampoo commercial came to life.

My sense is when the AI bubble bursts people are going to - say - a month later feel like “why are things better?”

The Musk clip is so fascinating because he thinks Grok looking at a person and insulting them by talking more vulgar isn’t transparent. Dude thinks the height of cleverness is getting Teddy Ruxpin to say the N word.

Yes, but also you can’t have FARGO (and really should you?) and not have PULP FICTION.
The movie listed at #1 is so incredibly misplaced that it calls into question the veracity of the entire list. It belongs on the list, yes, but SO MUCH further down. An absolute, credibility-wrecking flub. Boo, @variety.com! Boo!

In college, when Bob Marley became the default setting for reggae and everyone I knew who was in to him basically just liked marijuana and/or doing shitty covers of him, discovering THE HARDER THEY COME and its soundtrack was like “oh, reggae is good.” RIP Jimmy Cliff.

Watched the KNIGHT RIDER pilot last night because I am going to be working long hours and need something to watch that’s low maintenance (also was curious about it in 4K), and it’s engagingly stupid, but gotta say, Busta Thymes was right, the theme song is a cut (that said, no MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE).

People are so lonely these days.
The company essentially turned a dial that made ChatGPT more appealing and made people use it more, but sent some of them into delusional spirals.

OpenAI has since made the chatbot safer, but that comes with a tradeoff: less usage.

Revisited MEGALOPOLIS. I dunno, that’s a fucking experience of a movie and it makes the world a better place that it exists.

LAST NIGHT IN SOHO: Edgar Wright threads a needle about how past fetishism is often bullshit that doesn’t acknowledge how so much bad stuff was just under the surface and makes a me too film that doesn’t drown you in it while also trying to find the best ending for that while going 110%. Love it.

One thing that makes MEMORIES OF MURDER such a great film is about men who think they know everything who are driven insane by the fact that they don’t.

WICKED 2 might be fucked next weekend, but it does not help that 50-70% collapses are brought on when, as per Deadline: “Friday’s $68.5M includes the $30.8M previews from Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.” Fridays aren’t Fridays. Modern numbers are bullshit.

When it comes to dumb takes on movies, I like ones that asks interesting questions. We don’t really question smell in movies, and shouldn’t, but when people die they tend to evacuate themselves. So if Jedis turn into force ghosts, do they leave a pile of poop behind or have force ghost poop?
