Puy de Sancy, Massif Central, #France, October 2024. I hadn't previously realised France had a string of extinct and merely dormant volcanoes in the middle. #MountainMonday #mountains #photography #landscapes

Arch. Spring in a beech forest. I love the way trees just grow with what life throws at them. #ForestFriday #trees #photography #beech

Glacier Blanc at Barre des Ecrins, France. Mont Pelvoux is one of the background peaks. September 2025, and so sadly a somewhat depleted glacier - but still majestic #MountainMonday #BlueSkyMonday #photography #mountains #France
Dry glacier with jagged mountain peaks as backdrop.

The unsung pollinator. I haven't identified this #insect (French Alps for context) but in quietly going about its business, it's also providing pollination services the whole ecosystem (including us!) depends on. #photography #insects #flowers #macro #pollination #nature #biodiversity

I just took progressively closer shots thinking the butterfly would scarper each time (no zoom on the phone so had to be pretty close for detail)... I avoided casting a shadow and got away with it... This was the last shot - and the butterfly was still undisturbed.

Orkney doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet... For seabirds at midsummer, amazing. Otherwise Mull, Skye, Western Isles etc have been mentioned. For landscapes I would add the northwest coast and mountains: Torridon, Loch Maree, An Teallach, the hills north of Ullapool, the coast at Durness

Can I ask if you know what year the permanent ice colouring on the IGN 1:25000 maps represents? (I have a 2018 IGN map for the central Ecrins and we were trying to work out how fast the ice had retreated on a visit this summer)

They're being sold as 'thinking' like us, 'understanding' the question etc. Their response tone is designed to support this illusion. So this misconception is unsurprising. We know the blueberry response is wrong and can prompt further, but people are using chat-gpt when they don't know the answer.

There's also convenient buses from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Fort William that basically follow the West Highland Way, and also access Glen Coe. My most recent 3 day hike was Glenfinnan to Inverie (bus, ferry, train for the logistics). Check out Walk Highlands for ideas across Scotland.
