Turnitin was maybe the first edtech company to turn mistrust into a service for universities. Now Mistrust as as a Service is pretty much the USP of the big AI industry in education.
Interesting to see marketing for these tools to so overtly sow mistrust between students and teachers, to suggest that the reason one should use AI is because one's teacher doesn't actually care, to be leaning into this transactional and quite sad way of seeing education. Also saw lots of this. /2

This week you might see conspiracy theorists touting a new documentary that alleges a vast censorship regime is “deciding what Americans are allowed to see, say, and even think.”

They may have paid their on camera experts. 👀

If you make "controversial statements" outside of classroom, that the President of the university dislikes, you can be summarily fired even if you are tenured.

I wish I could properly convey how boring Portland is right now. Like, there’s nothing going on.
Trump: "Portland, I mean -- every time I look at that place it's burning down. There are fires all over the place. When a store -- there are very few of them left -- but when a store owner rebuilds a store they build it out of plywood. They don't put up storefronts anymore. They just put wood up."

“The document also includes principles w/ which we disagree, including those that would restrict freedom of expression & our independence as an institution. And [it] is inconsistent w/ our core belief that scientific funding shld be based on scientific merit alone.”

💔💔A powerful + heartbreaking summary of the attacks on student services, shared governance, teaching, learning + more from Prof. Lisa Moore who has taught @UTAustin more than three decades. It is not too late to reverse these changes and #SaveUT!

Who was president in 2020?

Senate Rs spent hours Wed insisting a Biden Censorship Regime was in power.

It’s ridiculous on its face—but dangerous in its purpose.

If you can convince people of that lie, you can justify what Trump is doing now. It’s “just payback”.

“That was ... the point of the whole arrest – just to harass me + to send a message to other people around the state and especially faculty," Heyman said, "that we should not protest + we should not object to the abuse of our First Amendment rights by militarized troops on our college campuses."

NO LOYALTY OATHS IN HIGHER ED!

You can sort of see the asymmetry in media today -- when the Republicans shut down the government Republican media springs into propaganda mode, when the Democrats do it supposedly left media debates whether its the right fight.

Let's be clear a what's happening here: the "censorship" and "bias" narrative is being extended to Wikipedia bc the far right knows that getting bullshit into LLMs is how to shape reality as "answer engines" replace search engines.

Wikipedia is core to that fight so the grievance blitz is here.

Quiet part deafeningly loud right here.

These are bribes, not settlements. You don’t have to keep paying for YouTube Premium. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Since last fall’s election win, Trump has raked in more than $80 million in settlements stemming from lawsuits he has brought against Big Tech and media companies.

YouTube is the latest.

Trump's lawyer says the companies wouldn't have settled if he wasn't president.
