I was too busy hitting grownup milestones (getting my union membership, getting married, buying a house) to get to enjoy this amazing period of gaming that had such a lasting impact. By the time I finally got a 360, it was almost exclusively a Rock Band machine (not that that’s a bad thing)

Feeling serious FOMO listening to this great ep of Retronauts about MGS Delta. The original released at time in my life when I was pretty locked in on adulting & really missed out on this formative period of late PS2/early 360 hits (like RE4, Gears, Persona 3, etc)

Taylor’s melodies have always been simple & singable, that’s a key to writing a popular earworm. But laying those melodies on top of chord progressions that go EXACTLY where you expect them to go makes them feel rote and predictable, and the obvious homages in Martin’s production don’t help matters

I actually think it’s really cool to listen to other artists’ music and say “that rocks, I wanna write a song like that!” Taylor is unabashedly a fan of MUSIC, & hearing obvious influences behind this new album isn’t a problem for me.

The problem is that these songs are boring as hell

I love that in film & VO I get to have a tangible souvenir of the art I helped create. But thank the gods that theatre, at least, remains ephemeral and impermanent, bc film studios will never stop trying to achieve their dream of an actor they can fully own & control
