In good news, probably at least, this is the greenest I have ever seen Central California, in January or frankly at any time.

I really like keeping my systems stable too. It seems like every few years, I want to use some program that doesn't support my older OS and so I have to judge whether I want to update and risk breaking things. I had good luck with it recently but in the past it's caused real issues! It's a bummer!

That's smart! That happened with my writing habit, too -- being in the environment was a mental trigger.

Now, it kind of fell apart when summer break started. Showed the fragility of these things. But that's the point of this: showing how they can be erected again, too.

For creative folks working on their projects, or really anyone doing anything, reply or QT with something that you tried in 2025 that WORKED for you.

I'll start: Couple days a week, built a writing stop into the "take the kid to school" routine, before coming back home, before checking email.

Oh this thread made me extremely happy and also slightly angry
I have a long-running list of surprising eponyms, and in this dark time I wish to share my amusement with you.

To clarify, an eponym is something named for a person. โ€œNewtonโ€™s Lawsโ€ are called that for Isaac Newton. A surprising eponym is just that.

So, letโ€™s begin.

Multiple times now IRL I've been in some group fun situation (like family board game night) that ends with someone going "Haha, now here's an AI song recapping everything we just did!" And it's always a little sheepish, like, this is stupid but goofy, which makes all the kids there think it's goofy

I've curated my feed here on bsky enough that it was honestly startling to peek in on Facebook and see all the AI stuff people were posting and celebrating. Not suggested posts, from my FB friends. The local city PD just havin a blast making music videos of officers partying with Santa, etc

Happy Betty Boop Liberation Day to @alecrobbins.bsky.social, a fella years ahead of his time in many ways but also this one extremely specific way. Betty Boop had nothing to lose but her chains, and now those have fallen.

Hohoho! I drew this year's holiday card for my art rep, Felix Comic Art. I wanted the recipients to get something that looked like a piece of vintage original art, but also couldn't help poking some fun at Felix's love for Dark Knight Returns.

For the second year in a row, I spent an inordinately long time crafting the perfect gift box for a gallon of windshield washer fluid.

(I couldn't find last year's similar box so I had to make a new one.)
