Five articles on Yorkshire Bylines suggesting another way of looking at things. Not left / right, not socialist / capitalist, not Labour / Conservative - but ‘We’ / ‘I’.

We – fighting against the tides of greed and tricks and lies
Navigating truth in an age of lies: an ‘I’ vs ‘We’ lens could reshape our view of politics, society, and our shared future

Some parts of Kemi Badenoch's budget response speech (both the words and the tone) would have been described as 'misogynist' if she were a man.
The fact that she is a woman aping a misogynist man doesn't really make it any better.

This is all over the BBC!
Or it would have been but their lawyers said they had to cut any reference to it in case it upset someone - somewhere - at some time.
Maybe.

And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Charlie Brown, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
I’m not the guy you kill, Charlie Brown. I’m the guy you buy!
This is what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass, Charlie Brown

In the budget why doesn’t the UK government simply tax MetaFacebookInstagramWhatsApp at a rate equivalent to 100% of its annual UK turnover?
Or thereabouts.
Meta halted internal research that purportedly showed (young) people who stopped using Facebook became less depressed and anxious, according to an unredacted legal filing released on Friday. www.cnbc.com/2025/11/23/m...

A BBC gripe.
On the 7am Today news there were two items - one straight after the other - about "Artificial Intelligence".
First - about AI and various finance shenanigans.
Second - about using AI to identify polyps connected with bowel cancer.

These are not the same type of AI!!!
Differentiate!!!!

So here’s my pre-budget message to Rachel Reeves (pre-budget messaging being strangely in vogue this year):

The Labour government need to be a bit more like this …

So one joyous scenario for the UK is that Labour carry on in government until 2029 in a similar way to now - playing perpetual ‘out-Reform Reform’, pleasing no-one, and achieving few of their promises, AND THEN a Reform /Tory coalition take us through to 2034 (😱) and totally ruin any last good bits.

8%.
That’s one twelfth.

One part in every twelve of the UK economy has been destroyed by Brexit.

For one month every year Brexit switches this country off.

From now until the week before Xmas - nothing.

The one indisputable fact about plastic in the environment is that next year there will be more.

We need to ban single use plastic, and all plastic in packaging, now.

Difficult? Yes.

Necessary? Yes.Yes.Yes.

Or shall we do it in 10 years time?

Twenty?

Some unintended consequences of a 20 yr hiatus for refugees:
* there is less reason for people to integrate - socially, economically, language learning, or at community level;
* racists are given an extra taunt - “How long before you’re kicked out then?“
* education, career & friendship disruption
