It's a relatively tranquil summer sunday in Paris, and there is little traffic from pedestrians and vehicles around the Palais Garnier (Opera House). View from the Galeries Lafayette Haussmann. Five streets and one alley end in a crossroads with a roundabout. There are many buildings several stories high designed in an antique style on the sides of the streets. The streets closer to the photographer are lined with trees. Some vehicles and a few pedestrians are seen in the photo. The sky is overcast, with plump and textured clouds.

Another sourdough experiment: pizza. Made only with starter, flour, water and a little salt. Fermented overnight about 12 hrs. It's a little harder to work than dough with regular yeast and a bit chewier, but it has better flavor.

On both sides of the throughway there are one story buildings built in the traditional Chinese style, with clay roof tiles, columns and latticed windows in red colors. A recently-made baguette of a very irregular shape, on top of a cooling rack. It's crusty and has a light brown and orange color. They say food has a soul. I always wonder if ugly food feels insecure about itself. Does it think it will never be eaten? Does it ponder the meaning of its difficult existence? Will it elevate a prayer to an indifferent Baker in the Sky? Fear not, my little loaf. Beauty is in the inside, yours as well as mine (in my stomach, that is). All home-made foodstuffs are wonderful in the eyes of the Creator. You will never be alone. You shall be eaten. You'll spend your short life with creamy butter, fragrant goat cheese, Kalimata olives and perhaps au jus, until you ascend to the Big Pantry in the Sky. A round loaf of sourdough bread, with some cranberries and walnuts. The loaf has a cut along its middle, on the top. It's laying on top of a cooling rack. It seems crusty and warm.
