If I'm reading this correctly, then Yarvin wants the role of führer to be awarded via a Wings of Voice-style competition www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
“You don’t ransack your own house,” he told me one afternoon, at an open-air café in Venice Beach. I’d asked him what would stop his C.E.O.-monarch from plundering the country—or enslaving his people—for personal gain. “For Louis XIV, when he says, ‘L’état, c’est moi,’ ransacking the state holds no meaning because it’s all his anyway.” Following Hoppe, Yarvin proposes that nations should eventually be broken up into a “patchwork” of statelets, like Singapore or Dubai, each with its own sovereign ruler. The eternal political problems of legitimacy, accountability, and succession would be solved by a secret board with the power to select and recall the otherwise all-powerful C.E.O. of each sovereign corporation, or SovCorp. (How the board itself would be selected is unclear, but Yarvin has suggested that airline pilots—“a fraternity of intelligent, practical, and careful people who are already trusted on a regular basis with the lives of others. What’s not to like?”—could manage the transition between regimes.) To prevent a C.E.O. from staging a military coup, the board members would have access to cryptographic keys that would allow them to disarm all government weapons, from nuclear missiles down to small arms, with the push of a button.

Almost since it started, I've subjected many friends to forced viewings of @npr.org's Tiny Desk Concerts. So I was thrilled when @afarles.bsky.social told me to write about the Tiny Desk effect and its ability to create global stars/reinvigorate artists' careers. www.fastcompany.com/91337277/npr...
How NPR’s Tiny Desk became the biggest stage in music
NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts are now minting global pop stars quicker than ever. Just ask Argentina’s Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso.

Knockdown Center is a venue I've gotten to watch evolve since it started. Ahead of its flagship WIRE Festival, I talked to its cofounder and bookers about how they help international artists navigate the visa process and get them on stacked bills. www.fastcompany.com/91334896/kno...

Always a treat to read the Times and see that they're essentially parroting trump talking points uncritically. This deck seems to concede the idea that the joint chiefs and the naval secretary were in their roles because of diversity initiatives.

i know we all think the NYT op-ed board issuing a “hey wha hoppen with trans rights” piece is a little rich but don’t worry: about halfway through they make sure to tell us it’s okay to keep Just Asking Questions 👍
“It should be recognized that society is still grappling with the cultural and policy implications of the rapidly shifting understanding of gender. There are some issues - such as participation in sports and appropriate medical care for minors - that remain fiercely debated, even by those who broadly support trans rights. There should be room for those conversations.”

Not sure there’s a ton of thought being given to what’s implied by this phrasing—that there’s a disconnect btwn how they identify and some other more “objective” descriptor. Which would be weird regardless but in this context feels telling about ppl’s assumptions about this shooter

Just important to note that this is a super fucking weird headline!

This was our first year honoring CMOs, and it's a really wonderful assortment of some of the brightest minds working in branding and marketing. I got to talk to Elizabeth Rutledge, CMO of @americanexpress.bsky.social about how she's courted Gen Z. www.fastcompany.com/91236080/ame...

Realizing I should post more on Bluesky, and to get the ball rolling, i want to share the annual project I've been working on since this summer: @fastcompany.com's Brands That Matter. It's a collection of 121 brands and 10 CMOs whose work is exceptional. www.fastcompany.com/brands-that-...
Brands That Matter 2024 | Fast Company
The fourth annual Brands That Matter list recognizes companies—and for the first time, CMOs—that have established themselves as not just relevant but vital to culture and business.

You gotta take my word for it as a Santa Fe native and former bead salesman—Shaboozey’s turquoise bolo tie on SNL is the wildest bolo I’ve ever seen. Look at it compared to Paul Mescal’s head!

Telfar has answered a question few have dared to ask: what's bigger than small, but smaller than medium?

the answer: Shmedium. It's both a clever name and a smart way to sell bags even to rabid Telfar collectors. It comes as the label opens its first store. www.fastcompany.com/91236770/tel...
Telfar’s ‘shmedium’ bag gives fans a new size to add to their collection
The cult brand’s cheekily named ‘shmedium’ bag (smaller than a medium but larger than a small) drops the same week the label opened its flagship store in New York.

I am seeing more and more opinions bubbling up about how throwing trans people to the wolves would be a winning strategy for Democrats, and I just want to quickly say: Fuck off with that absolute dog shit.
