It's always exciting to do the final #coverreveal of a new #book, but this one is a real corker. I think it really captures the essence of the book, and #echidnas. With many thanks to WA #wildlife artist #CatherineScartaccini for permission to use her beautiful #drawing.#wildlifeart #naturewriting

Exquisite images from this years BirdLife Australia #Photgraphy Competition. So lucky we still have such a rich abundance of #birds in Australia. Let's make sure we keep it that way. #australianwildlife www.birdlifephotoaward.org.au/gallery-winn...

Thrilled to see this big fat #platypus (check out that tail) foraging in #Hobart Rivulet. Wildlife in cities is a wonderful thing - we need to make all cities more #wildlife friendly (as well as protecting large areas of intact #native bush). Yay for #monotremes! #naturewriting #australianwildlife

Good to hear there is some discussion about
protecting the truth in politics and on social media. Now we just need some action.
Australia’s laws are currently incapable of halting the flood of falsehoods shaping public opinion on climate and clean energy.

Brilliant news that Australia stands its ground on #copyrighttheft and rejects TDM exceptions for #AI. That will clear the way for a #fairpay licensing model for #authors and #artists and hopefully help keep us afloat on the growing tidal wave of toxic AI sludge. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-10...
Artists tell AI to 'solve the problem' as copyright carve-out ruled out
Labor has ruled out changing copyright laws to give tech giants free rein to train artificial intelligence models on creative works after the proposition was met with widespread backlash from artists.

I’d wager it’s been eyeing them off a LOT longer than that.

This article is interesting because it illustrates the underlying factors that bedevil writing as an artform and as a job. Writers will write regardless of pay, suppressing payrates. And commercial writing both supports and undermines writing as an artform. It's unsustainable and inequitable.

What a childish rant from Peter Malinauskas over "eco-purists" and Nimbys objecting to gas projects (like they have any say). Some rational evidence based discussion around energy transition would be more helpful than name calling. Guess this is why Susan Close is retiring. A great loss for SA.
