Despicable and petty. A party of suits with fat pockets.

Scared men with guns are surely the most dangerous kind?

Save the date #AusArts day is coming up! So many fabulous creative arts activities worthy of support - including the ASA backing book creators. Check them out on the wwe.creative.gov.au/ausartday (search for literature). And Save the Date - 23 October - for making your donations. #writers #arts

This article is interesting because it illustrates the underlying factors that bedevil writing as an artform and as a job. Writers will write regardless of pay, suppressing payrates. And commercial writing both supports and undermines writing as an artform. It's unsustainable and inequitable.

It's a learned society = substantive track record in science. Rich bloke who invests in tech (no matter how worthy) is not that. Don't know if the engineers let him in (he's not one) or if it was honorary (for unqualified science supporter) but clearly he was only ever about the $$ and power.

I did guess that - just love that the reporter didn't feel the need to specify. They obviously have very low entry standards. This is what happens if you just let any (rich) bugger in.

Which Royal Society are they talking about? There are rather a lot. Is it a 'special' one? Most of them have are meant to have standards for membership after all.

The number of east coasters who don't seem to have any concept of timezones....

Less than 2 weeks until our arboretum open days! Here's a few of the eucalypts flowering at the moment.

These free open days only occur biannually. Currency Creek Arboretum is about an hour's drive south of Adelaide in SA. Open details here: www.dn.com.au/Currency_Cre...

Europe and Africa not quite so welcoming though. Can't even fly over them.

Delighted to have Edith Coleman featured on the Science History Institute page. A great resource for schools and teachers too. #naturewriting #sciencewriting #womeninscience #australiannature #historyofscience www.sciencehistory.org/education/sc...

Great overview. Distribution costs seem higher in Aus? Also 10% RRP is the standard royalty rate - 10% net receipts cuts author's pay by 50% and is much less transparent. More common for academic rather than trade publishers?

We live in hope - but rather hopelessly.

What a childish rant from Peter Malinauskas over "eco-purists" and Nimbys objecting to gas projects (like they have any say). Some rational evidence based discussion around energy transition would be more helpful than name calling. Guess this is why Susan Close is retiring. A great loss for SA.

During the Black Saturday fires the automated backup for when the 000 system is overloaded did not work. No explanation why not and wasn't queried by the Royal Commission. Telcos don't seem interested in being an essential service.

Such a damaging process for a University's reputation. No wonder they struggle to attract high quality candidates for senior positions with this ongoing instability.

25mya sure is a long bow!! But many species have broader habitat tolerances than their current ranges suggest. Mind you, if MPPs can live in lowland forests then they should also adapt to climate change in their existing range! Palaeo provides context for conservation but this overstates the case.

A lovely Adelaide launch for Grace Notes by Jennifer Liston. Bringing to life the famed Irish Pirate Queen Gráinne Mhaol, reconnecting oral and written histories with poetry, song, and resolute rigour. A master class in literary historical reconstruction.
Blue book cover on blue background with shells and model ship. Jennifer Liston reading from her book in front of bookshelves.

Is this someone else's post? Would love to know who/where. Barbed wire is a horror.

A landscape of tall conifers. There are rocks on the ground with moss growing on them.
