What are your favorite horror subgenres? Body horror is a favorite of mine with psychological horror a close second.

New video! This time I take you back to 1977 for a review of The Possessed. This was an odd film of the religious horror subgenre. It also features a star-studded cast before some of them became stars.

Hello from the writing space! Rough draft complete of Phil's story (working title). The setup about a mysterious severed limb went well, but I have a lot to flesh out as the plot thickens.

Hello from the writingspace!

Almost done with the rough draft of a new story. What if one night, as you are walking, a severed limb suddenly lands on your head from out of nowhere? That's the inciting event of this short story, and uncovering the truth behind this grisly mystery has been a blast.

My review vid of The Pram by Joe Hill. This was a fun horror story. The premise felt fresh and unique in Hill's creative hands.

New video up! I discuss the horror anime Perfect Blue with my friend @ramiungarwriter.bsky.social. I was pleasantly surprised by this twisty, unsettling narrative.

Picked up Meditations by Marcus Aurelius the other day. This one is for research purposes. One character in my novel–Daryl's his name–is reading this book. I want to understand how this book might influence his thinking. Plus, there might be something I get from it as well.

I was looking at the bauble when the reflection materialized amid the red and silver filigree: it was me, marked with guilty bloodstained hands. I cried out hoarsely, stomping the trinket to a thousand nightmare shards. Despite desperate actions, the hideous voice of accusation never left my mind.

I was staring at a bauble when I felt a cold finger slither across the nape of my neck. I spun around, frozen in terror when I saw that no one was behind me. I thought I imagined it, until I looked back at the bauble, and saw a clay model of my screaming face in its place.

The story continues!
I just crossed the hundred page mark of my novel in my notebooks. I'm really happy about this, because I had to work through a block to get here–one character had remained a mystery until now. I love those aha moments.

I've started keeping a dream journal. There are so many seeds of inspiration for stories and self-examination embedded in the sometimes bizarre and often chaotic experience of dreams. Do any of you find inspiration in dreams?
