I raised serious concerns with The Trillium about the Student and Family Support Offices that opened Monday at TDSB and four other boards under provincial supervision—particularly what this model means for access, accountability, and student support.

Trustees play significant roles in policy development, budget allocation, and improving student outcomes. They hold the education system accountable and have brought transparency to decisions that affect our children’s futures. Removing them would centralize power and diminish community influence.

Former Metrolinx Advisor, current TDSB Supervisor, Rohit Gupta, rescinds class size cap directive issued by trustees last March… one of many reasons we need trustees… www.torontotoday.ca/local/educat... #onted #onpoli
Why has the TDSB supervisor rescinded a class size cap?
Trustees voted last March to cap class sizes in grades 4 to 8 at a maximum of 32 students. The TDSB’s supervisor rescinded that directive

At the #NoToHate Community Rally, we stood in solidarity with immigrant workers, families, and children. Hate and scapegoating won’t solve crises caused by policy failure. Dignity and safety belong to everyone. Solidarity is how we build a just city.✊🏾

Adopting Health Canada’s indoor air quality guidelines would significantly improve public health while strengthening accessibility and climate resilience across Toronto. I encourage residents to join @CleanIndoorAirTO and tell the City you support a healthier, future-ready Toronto.

As DEI is deemed out of fashion and fascism rises around us, public education cannot retreat from its role. We remain firmly committed to a revolution of values and building a beloved community.
This work continues.

Just before the holiday break, I spoke with The Trillium about potential school closures. With concerns raised by education critics and OPSBA, it’s clear decisions must stay with local trustees. I shudder to think of Parkdale–High Park families paying the price for reckless government overreach.

Window Wonderland is back in the Junction—worth stopping for. Augmented-reality window displays by local and international artists highlight cultural storytelling and global dialogue. If you’re nearby, take a walk, support a local shop, and enjoy the art animating our streets this season❄️

The Keele Street Public School community has so much heart ❤️

Today they filled a van with food and care items for the Parkdale Community Food Bank—while also benefitting from the City’s expanded school nutrition program.

Hearts (and bellies) are full this holiday season.

An afternoon in Parkdale with @avilewis.ca and community members, listening to cost-of-living concerns and discussing practical public alternatives to reduce household costs 📉 and improve everyday life. Time well spent!

So impressed by the community who showed up and braved the cold for today’s #RunforSudan at Sir Casimir Gzowski Park.

Grateful for the chance to welcome runners to the ward and celebrate how public spaces bring us together—for movement, connection, and humanitarian action.❤️🤍🖤💚

It was an honour to participate in the Swansea Town Hall #RemembranceDay ceremony once again.

The commemoration of folks who served in wartime is near and dear to Swansea residents.

Local democracy isn’t outdated – it’s how we build better schools for our kids.

If the Ford government eliminates trustees, we lose more than oversight – we lose local democracy in our schools.

Keep education close to home.

Parents gathered at Lucy McCormick SS to demand action on harmful cuts to special education.
When class sizes grow, students with disabilities are put at greater risk. Every child deserves safety and a fair chance to learn — not a system stretched beyond its limits, where parents bear the burden.
