There’s been extremely loud criticism of how SL points are awarded to Indycar drivers so i wouldn’t be surprised if there wasnt just a LITTLE bit extra sensitivity here - Motorsport.com probably isn’t writing a prominent article about the FIA noodling over the points awarded to xfinity drivers…

It’s optics. This change is on some level admitting the FIA got it wrong. Even if not applied retroactively it becomes a talking point if new drivers qualify. Why did all SL points for Indycar increase EXCEPT 2nd/10th place? What did Colton place in 2024 and 2023? And how many points did he miss by?
It wouldn't matter anyway the change is not retroactive.

IndyCar's new superlicense points are better, but it's fraught because superlicense points are a terrible concept. Both Formula E and IndyCar are littered with superlicense holders who are not good in the series.

I appreciated the final breakdown in Motorsports showing under the new points system, no new people would’ve gotten their SL. Almost as if it was designed this way (before anyone accuses me of paranoia, think about how the FIA stewards look to impact before they determine whether a penalty occurs)

Formula baby here. My mom has deep burn scars that made breastfeeding difficult. I did ok!

before this gets buried: I think it's INCREDIBLY shitty that Red Bull sacked Yuki then told him to spend his last F1 race doing desperate things. I wish he'd unplugged the radio or something - but I do also understand why he felt like he had to do what he did.
