This is what I finished recently for granddaughter 2, Hannah. The Mappa Mundi (c1300AD) is kept by Hereford Cathedral, showing the world as they saw it. It is filled with cities,
real & mythical animals, monsters, & Bible stories. Adapted & designed by the wonderful Nicola Jarvis & stitched by me.

Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview with Netflix in March 2025 that she understood would only be released after her death.

Oh no! The very first time I have heard this news. One of my favourite poets too. Which geography teacher was his neighbour? To lose him and Jane Goodall in 24 hours is too much.....

He was. The very best of the best. I still miss him every day. He would be appalled by what is happening now.

When we lived in London we attended an Anglican church which had a German vicar who had migrated here. We took my father (WW2 soldier) to a Remembrance service there. Bernhard asked "Does your father know I'm German?" to which my father replied 'I fought so that men like him could come & live here".

Was that a work related awayday or a morale boosting treat for your long-suffering colleagues to say thanks for putting up with you?!

This makes me proud of my local town, Leominster in Herefordshire. The people here are not painting STOP THE BOATS on the wall. They're working hard to remove the slogan.

We visited Rottnest a couple of years ago. We were told the quokkas were shy & retiring; in fact, they sat on outdoor cafe tables & demanded a share of everyone's food. Cute, yes, but they're little thugs!

The atoms within you once burned in the heart of stars, chaotic and lifeless, and yet here you are, after half a dozen or so billion years, arranging them into love, questions, and hope. You are a miracle, a thermodynamic miracle.

The thread of 'amazing things made by my amazing mum' was over on Twitter, so I can't add to it, but I am compelled to post another incredible piece by the inimitable @deborahjarman.bsky.social

Much talk on here of Allan Ahlberg’s work as he’s died.

I always adored Starting School and still think it’s the best book on the subject as it covers the repetitive nature of it.

I’ve always loved this page 😍
A page from the book Starting School.

The text in the centre of the page says Sometimes the teacher is not cheerful either. It is surrounded by six illustrations which show 1. Children painting at an easel and spilt paint on the floor 2. A child bringing the teacher a damaged book 3. The teacher trying to put a poster on the wall with 2 children fighting behind her 4. Teacher on playground duty with a cup and saucer of tea being split as she is bumped by 2 children playing football 5. Teacher tying 5 children’s (possibly wet on a dry day) shoelaces 6. Teacher trying to organise 2 children in witches costumes possibly for a show.

Kate's mum here. I had never heard of Tom Lehrer until I went to university, and made my first best friend, who still holds that position 52 years later. Her father introduced me to his songs; still a source of joy (along with Flanders & Swan) decades later.....

Oh no. Tom Lehrer gone. At his great age, it’s not a tragedy, I know, but it just does feel bad not having his genius in the world.
