The extent of it came into clearer focus for me after two symbolic events in particular:

Elmo’s Sieg Heils during the inauguration.

Kanye’s stunt selling swastika T-shirts via ads he placed on a number of Fox channels around the country during the last Super Bowl.

I think I can help you understand:

Literal neo-Nazis successfully took over the United States of America. It’s been brewing for a lot longer than most people realize. The effort was global in scale, and has likely involved fascist holdouts and their kin since the end of WWII.

It’s pretty bad.
