Feel free to add your own ideas for reforming Congress!

1. We should pay Congress critters based on the median income in their states. When they make crap money, they might actually work for real job growth, real income growth so that their salary increases, too. #ReformCongress

You can't discuss or argue anything with these people. They live in their own fantasy world and bathe every day in hypocrisy.

We've gone beyond people leaving the U.S. due to being unhappy with the Trump government. We're now to the point of people fleeing for their lives due to Trump's and his followers' rhetoric inciting MAGAts to threaten death upon families.

And do it goes...

WIRED spoke with Mark Bray, the Rutgers historian trying to flee to Spain with his family after an online campaign from far-right influencers was followed by death threats. He was turned back from the airport on his first attempt.

Marco is so random. He doesn't really stand for anything.

All I know is I wish something would give. I'd like to visit my family and friends, but it's definitely not safe for this pale gringo there. The last time I went, the Guardia tried to give me crap at the airport. Luckily my super dumb gringo act got me past that time...

Machado is not perfect, certainly, but she is much better for now. The trick is, when the people are able to take back the government for real democratic votes, that they and the elected candidate don't overcorrect and end up at the other end of hell. That can be hard not to do.
dementuschikan.bsky.social
The election results were completely rigged by the regime. I have friends and family there whose votes were nullified, changed, or lost. A lot of outside investigators have been able to look over things and determined González should be president.

FWIW, my wife is Venezuelan and I have family and friends living in Venezuela who are dealing with all the shit. I wish there was something we could, but a Trump invasion is not it for so many reasons, plus now we have our own fight here. Nobel's slap against worldwide authoritarian pushes one step.
dementuschikan.bsky.social
...make this mistake. Trump is not a capitalist so much as he is an authoritarian who is all for government controls of business and more as long as it is for him and his buddies. Maduro and Trump are not even two sides of the same coin; they're the same side of the piece of paper.
dementuschikan.bsky.social
Yes, but the caveat here is thinking that the problems in Venezuela are distinctly capitalist vs. socialist. Maduro/Chavists say they are socialist but they are decidedly authoritarian and have been funneling money to their foreign bank accounts for decades. Even Venezuelans who support Trump...
dementuschikan.bsky.social
When you're being beaten down by a brutal regime, you'll grasp for any possible way out. A lot of Venezuelans think Trump is anti-socialist so will come save them. A lot of Venezuelan immigrants-now-citizens here in the US voted for him based on that. Trauma blinded them to his narcissism.

The Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 goes to María Corina Machado of Venezuela.

She has worked for years opposing the narco-criminal Chavista regime, culminating in 2024 with a huge win in the presidential election -- which the regime rejected and stole anyway.

A black and white photo of Novel Peace Prize 2025 winner María Corina Machado sitting at a desk and looking straight into the camera, chin sitting on her right hand. A photo of María Corina Machado standing on the roof of a car surrounded by a huge crowd during the Venezuelan presidential election campaign of 2024. Edmundo González Urrutia of her opposition party won the election, but the Chavista regime rejected results, put out fake numbers, and threatened arrest of González, who fled to avoid capture. Screenshot of some text from the Nobel Committee's report on the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025:

When authoritarians seize power, it is crucial to recognise courageous defenders of freedom who rise and resist. Democracy depends on people who refuse to stay silent, who dare to step forward despite grave risk, and who remind us that freedom must never be taken for granted, but must always be defended - with words, with courage and with determination.

Maria Corina Machado meets all three criteria stated in Alfred Nobel's will for the selection of a Peace Prize laureate. She has brought her country's opposition together. She has never wavered in resisting the militarisation of Venezuelan society. She has been steadfast in her support for a peaceful transition to democracy.

It is deeply gratifying to see that the long struggle of the Venezuelan people against a merciless tyranny at least on this day has not been forgotten.

Marco Rubio always looks like he definitely knows the hell he is in, and I really do hope he is agonizing inside over what is going to happen when the Trump regime comes crashing down.

Besides linking Tylenol in pregnant women to autism, RFK Jr. now says circumcision is part of the reason why kids are autistic.

"Children who are circumcised early have double the rate of autism, and it's highly likely because they're given Tylenol. None of this is positive..."

So, remember when we were said please vote Harris or there would never be elections again?

Yep.

Not everyone had been convicted yet. However, in order to accept a pardon before conviction, you have to admit guilt. Least as far as I know; I’m sure some kind soul on the Internet will correct any mistakes I made.

We have Circulator buses in Baltimore that are free and cover a pretty decent area north and south of the Inner Harbor. Delays can be a bit annoying, but I can forgive some of that due to traffic issues -- plus it's free.

Bring back trolleys/trams with well-integrated infrastructure like in Europe.

Time to surround federal buildings with your police or national guard and only let fed agents out if they can show proof of official business (i.e. actual warrants), and even then they need to allow state observers along for the trip.
