“In John McTiernan’s 1990 film adaptation of “The Hunt for Red October,” Fred Thompson…delivers a haunting warning… “This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we’ll be lucky to live through it.”

We have three years left with a mad king. It does not feel sustainable.”

The Democratic approach to building back power is:

1. Avoid contentious issues;
2. Pivot all discourse to unobjectionable appeals like costs;
3. Leave moral opposition to citizens of conscience, who have lost all trust in the party, but hope they vote Democrat anyhow.

Wrong top to bottom.

Grizzly Bear mauls a group of hikers, the Democratic leadership’s response would probably be “if we could only train the bear better & put cameras on him to hold him accountable.”

Seriously, what the hell are we doing.

The Double Musky Inn in Girdwood, Alaska.

The best steakhouse I’ve ever been to in my life.

Best steak (Cajun-style pepper steak) I’ve ever had.

Lost it because of COVID.

I romanticize about it in the same way Ron Swanson dreams about going to Charles Mulligan’s Steakhouse in Parks & Rec.
Sunday night timeline cleanse

please tell me about your favorite lost restaurant (closed for at least 5 years, like I really want you to go back into the vault), why you loved it and what you ate there

Again, even more reason why Democrats have to act decisively & remorseless against MAGA post Trump. No ignoring the problem or forgiveness for the sake of political expedience.

Why would any sane country trust us if we don’t act decisively against such loathsome people?
Let’s say a Democrat gets elected in 2028—the U.S. still has to be treated as unreliable or hostile simply because (a) Trump was elected twice (b) executive power is clearly unconstrained in setting foreign policy

"People are being too purist about Gavin Newsom."

He invited yet another rightwing extremist to have a podcast conversation and instead of pushing back against that extremism, Newsom, yet again, backed down immediately.

I want a leader who isn't going to placate extremists. That's not a tough ask.

A powerful Atlantic piece on federal workers fired or forced out over the past year.

Federal employees spend their careers serving communities, protecting public health and safety, and keeping essential government functions running, often without recognition.

The Purged
Donald Trump’s destruction of the civil service is a tragedy not just for the roughly 300,000 workers who have been discarded, but for an entire nation.

JFC, I can’t believe we’ve become this as a country.

Again if any lady with a pulse & a EU / non-U.S. passport needs a trophy husband… I am going for a very low, low price right now…
Unbelievable. Troops from France, Germany, the UK, Norway, and Sweden are arriving in Greenland right now. Trump has turned our allies against us.

Immigrants of many races & nationalities built this game over the course of more than a century in this country.

Not Pele.

Not Beckham.

Not Messi.

Not the English Premiership.

… and certainly not some Tanland gobshites who I wouldn’t piss on if they were on fire like @meninblazers.bsky.social.
hard to imagine a more irritating way to market soccer to Americans than this. the entire Men In Blazers approach is based on the stupid, wrong idea that no one like soccer in America until well off white Americans started watching it when NBC got the rights in 2013

Again, only a matter of time before we have a major betting scandal in professional soccer in the U.S. / Canada. Not “if” but “when” at this point.

A toxic brew of low wages (refs & players), weak & compromised league(s) leadership, conflict of interests, & non-existent rules & regulations.
