Update on this.

While I still maintain I don't care how similar models are and am purely concerned with corporate overreach against the hobby, this isn't the guy.

Ghamak is equally litigious against smaller modelers and is an example of the exact thing I am concerned about here

The suit isn't for copyright infringement. It's for "unfair competition." So at the moment this argument doesn't have any relationship to, at least, the legal case.

I'm very left leaning. I do not like most copyright law, intellectual property law, so on and so forth, even if I understand it's utility in a capitalist world to sometimes do good.

I do not think GW's actions bring forth a good for the hobby, law be damned. That's my overall point here. ❤️

I worry that we're going to see an era of limited fan creativity in tabletop hobbying. Now I don't think this will capital K KILL the hobby, but it will cheapen it.

Industry studies show that fan ability to create in a space is one of THE factors that keep a game alive and well and healthy.

... draw a line and defend some elements of their creative license. However I personally feel these bounds were already set, understood, and fair.

Now that GW has increasingly attacked fan creators, I feel they have quite drastically overstepped a MORAL line. Law does not factor for me.

I feel like I should clarify my position to both of you. This reply isn't looking to pick a fight or anything, just to clear up what I actually care about.

I do not care how similar one model looks to a GW model. That is always going to be subjective, even if it is also obviously inspired.

This came up in the DTL discord, too. While I want to see more of the specifics, it currently sounds like GW is going after "proxies" that could be even handwavingly close to their IPs. So. Knights on dragons and big eagles because they could be proxies.

I love AoS, 40k, Killteam, the RPGs, own about a dozen books and I don't know how many codices, hundreds of models, more paint than I know what to do with.

I love tabletop. I love wargaming. I love this hobby.

I don't want to see it continue to be stifled by corporate greed.
