Holy Trinity Church in Uppington is mainly a Victorian building, though it does have some earlier features. Perhaps the most remarkable is the Norman doorway, which has an 11th-century tympanum above it. Thought to be either late Saxon or Early Norman, it depicts a wonderfully Intricate dragon.

When I lived in Boston (mid-late 90s), the (Irish) doorman of The Burren pub reckoned their were more illegal Irish working in the US than every other nationality put together.
Whenever I see the 'Ireland is Full' mob in the news, I often think of this map. I think I took the photo at the Dunbrody Famine Ship Museum, years ago. There was a time when it was *our* people leaving their country in their masses, either fleeing a crisis or in search of a better life.

A beautiful post by Dr Eleanor Parker from 2020 on the timing of Christmas - in the context of another time of uncertainty. Written from a British Christian perspective, but some bits are of universal relevance

Can we talk about English architect names? No one nation deserves an Inigo Jones, a Capability Brown, AND an Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

THREAD.

3 years ago, with no warning, a brilliant orange farm cat wandered over from the draughty barn where he had been living, in rural Cornwall, and decided he wanted to live with us instead.

We decided to call him Jim.

This is the first photo I took of him, on that night: December 1st, 2022.

Just registered for a webinar on Making Tax Digital. Still furious about this thing no one asked for and isn't necessary (unless you're an accountant or IT company). Also love how the emails are mostly about new penalties for sole traders. Thanks. Like we don't have enough to worry about these days.
