Streets are still closed off in front of the Portland ICE facility at 8:30pm. Protesters have gathered on a side street. Dance party in progress.

And an always must for the horror lover: Cabin in the Woods, with no info going in.

"Where is the art that strikingly knows it’s own futility but stumbles forward compellingly, anyway, because as an artist you have no choice?"

A quick reminder: if you read something you love, don't forget to write to the author to thank them for it, and tell them why you loved it.

If you've ever wondered what behind-the-scenes publishing looks like—it's a lot of spreadsheets. Here's lines 22–40 of Imperfect Creature's 120-line project spreadsheet!

We're in proof stage, as you can see 🔎

Loved Agnieszka Holland’s unconventional biopic ‘Franz’. It's experimental, using flash forwards (melding past and present) and unorthodox perspective. The term Kafkaesque is overused and Kafka is a commodity. Holland explores this to give us a portrait that is at once Kafkaesque and not Kafkaesque.
Movie still of actor Idan Weiss as Kafka, at a table with a plate of beans.

Is it just us or do Pacific loons like they belong to House Harkonnen 👀 Can't wait for them to haunt our dreams tonight.

If we gather everyone living within half a day's drive of the border (most of us) and just start digging, we can have it done by year's end prolly. We can get snacks, sing round songs—make it supes fun!

Getting sick of this "man sees puppy by dangerous road and what he does next will warm your heart" click bait. If you're going to make shit up, at least give us a twist. Like, "man sees puppy by dangerous road & gets hit by car while puppy ducks into the forest, free and happy, is actually robot."

A closeup of a woman's creepy face, from the cover of Imperfect Creatures by Joe Butler. Quote reads: "I am a fragment of silt caught in a diver's headlamp. I am nothing. I am an explorer beyond the bounds of life. Beyond reason."

My 80-year-old aunt told me she "got tired of streaming" and is borrowing DVDs from her library again.

So I checked it out and they have an amazing selection. Blu-rays too, from Criterion, Kino Lorber and other boutique labels.

In the bookshop this morning:

PARENTS: “Okay, we’re leaving now.”

CHILD: *pulls another book from the shelf and sits down *

CHILD: “Then I guess this is goodbye.”
