Most writers I know aren't tortured artists. They're exhausted administrators who occasionally remember they like sentences. Emails, forms, and spreadsheets are the real villains in this story.

So, my friend is currently on a big crochet kick and she just unveiled these two little guys, she has not seen OFMD and has no context for why I found them so entertaining! (She did give permission for me to share the pics though, and to shout out Complicated Knots on Youtube for the pattern)

I've just emailed my MP to tell them what nature means to me and that I want it to stay protected. Will you take action too?

Might try and write to my useless Tory MP again about this - she doesn't care about Palestine, immigrants, trans people or disabled people, but perhaps she'll care about nature given she's obsessed with farms.
Last night the Government steamrollered its Planning Bill through, slamming the door on vital protections for nature.

They said it would be a ‘win-win’ for the economy and nature.

But in reality, they’ve pushed nature into last place.

They treat nature like it has no voice.

But it does. Yours, ours, and millions more.

If you believe nature deserves better than this, make sure your MP hears it loud and clear:

"She explained that the prosecution used female pronouns to refer to the complainant during the trial, while Linehan's defence used male pronouns. The judge said she had chosen to refer to Brooks using "gender neutral pronouns and as 'the complainant'" in her ruling." Everyone gets to choose this 1/
It looks like that BBC page has been updated in the last few minutes, so that's no longer the last sentence. I think part of it has been moved to this paragraph in the middle of the article, and the age is no longer mentioned:

UK folk, cancel your TV license.
In the span of a hour, they stealth edited the article from trans woman to "biological male who identifies as a woman." The BBC isn't fit for purpose.

Obviously there are historical analogies - in the UK, penny dreadful, Victorian/Edwardian serialised fiction, etc

But the sheer VOLUME of (sometimes) bloated texts - the very long novel, the 30-book series - is definitely pegged to conditions created by our current digital-capitalist ecosystem

Absolutely this

Likewise, the Amazon-prompted explosion of VERY multi-instalment novel series can be read as a response to the material conditions in which a lot of writers/small presses are trying to scratch a living (via KU page reads as well as sales, achieved via 4-books/year churn)

I have just seen a take from a marginalised author with a mainstream publisher that pirate sites will act as archives if marginalised books are banned and I just WOW - I see what you mean, but also tell me you have a major publishing deal and are actually getting paid without telling me etc etc 🙃

I also read indie because there you can get trans books without it being about how hard it is to be trans and how much we suffer for being trans and how horrible the trans experience is because that's all the cis acquisition editors want: Cis-approved versions of trans suffering.
I am a sucker for books with transfem leads.

That’s why I read mostly indie.

Not every transfem indie book turns out to be outstanding, but at least I get to do the gatekeeping, not a cis acquisitions editor in New York.

#WeAintBuyingIt — this isn’t just a boycott. It’s a declaration. We’re not consumers. We’re constituents. We’re neighbors. We’re fighters. And when we act together, even giants like Target, Amazon, and Home Depot feel the ground shake. social.demcast.com/s/2n4MSwX2

Not on Threads so no idea what's being said about the whole Graveside Press thing, and realise having a reprint story in an anthology is low stakes compared to other authors, but I am still beyond tired of situations like this. Just, don't bite off more than you can chew. Pay people what you owe em.

If you're in the US, the libby app is also fabulous. Get the book from a library and support both your libraries AND authors. You can sign up with your own local library or there are ones that accept you anywhere in the US as well
Read this thread, especially if you've ever downloaded a book from a pirate site. Pirating indie books is NOT the same as 'acquiring' big budget Amazon shows. It's the difference between shoplifting from Walmart or stealing from a little craft stall.
I posted a buy link here to "A Magical Inheritance" a few days ago, and 24 of you immediately went to Anna's Archives and fucking stole it from me.

Yes, stole it.

I do not get paid for your download there because YOU ARE STEALING FROM ME.
