I rather enjoy that Knights & Magic has continued to be a source of increasingly absurd model kits, with them even milking the novel-only designs now.

Dark History literally making the "If something doesn't make sense, A Wizard Did It" joke.

I also watched the four hour video about Disney animatronics, but I've also not been to a major theme park in, like, two decades, so have very little opinion on them as a thing.

I was watching some Wild Last Boss Appeared last night, and whichever member of the shows subtitle crew who went to the effort of figuring out how to abuse CRs subtitling system into doing the corrupted episode titles in soft subs probably isn't paid enough.

Can’t speak to the US screenings, but it was funny seeing Jonathan Clements question the audience as to what brought them to the Edinburgh screening as he was kinda baffled why Angels Egg sold out a sizeable theatre when stuff that’s not even out in Japan yet hadn’t.
A completely inscrutable anime OVA from 1985 was in the US box office top 5 for a couple of days, congrats angels egg www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt0208...

Kinda curious how people going to see Angels Egg have been finding the audio levels - heard a few folks complaining that some of the US screenings have been ear-renderingly loud at times, and from the 12+ screenings I saw at the Cameo last week it was the only one that had me reaching for earbuds.

The amount of 2000s stuff that it feels like Aniplex in particular is just sitting on is a constant source of frustration for someone who does retrospective stuff for anime cons. I mean, I'm old enough to still have most this stuff, but it's pretty annoying to have to caveat stuff like Kamichu.
Forget new series that never get legal streams, what about all of the old series that are impossible to find? Chris and Lucas discuss some really buried treasure.

Kawamoris movie Labyrinth is about a girl so stressed by becoming an unintended viral Internet hit that she gets trapped inside her cellphone whilst a doppelgänger formed from her troll account interacting with 7G attempts to complete her real-world self actualisation via social media shitposts.

At that point of my annual Edinburgh trip where I deeply regret booking a 6am train home, regardless of how much hassle it saves me in the journey.

The SLA screening advertised as being the first three Koike specials ended up actually having the Zenigata one as well with no prior advertisement.

On the one hand, this is great as I hadn’t seen it yet.

On the other hand, two and a half hours of Lupin tuned into almost four…

Forgot to mention that Last Blosson won both the judges and audience award. Right choice in my opinion as well, to be honest, but kind of surprised that All You Need Is Kill polled so comparatively badly with the audience.

I feel like anyone who thinks there’s something unintentional in the ways in which Labyrinth is funny probably hasn’t seen AKB0048, as I’m not sure how you could have seen that show and come to the conclusion Kawamori doesn’t know exactly what he’s doing with this stuff.

I need to see Junkhead at some point, huh?

You know, I somehow never noticed prior to this festival that the National Lottery Hand Logo had a face on it.

I thought Kawamori was Washed, but Labyrinth was a better Hosoda movie than that guy ever directed.

The sheer number of callbacks to other things he’s been involved in is pretty insane - the DYRL, Macross Plus and Aquarion references are in-your-face obvious, but there’s even stuff you could attribute to Arjuna in there.

In one word: Incredible.

In two words: utterly deranged.

Shoji Kawamoris Labyrinth might actually be my favourite movie of the year, but I kinda don’t really want to spoil anything.

(Just got out of my second viewing of Labyrinth and, yeah, this is still my favourite movie playing this festival. Not what I think is the best, mind you - that’s Last Blossom - but it’s the most on my wavelength)

I can’t even begin to describe Labyrinth, the new movie by Shoji Kawamori. If you are familiar with, say, Aquarion, then you know he can get pretty out there sometimes. Imagine a Hosoda Internet Movie filtered through the lens of Arjuna and you might be about 50% of the way there, though. Loved it.

100 Meters is incredible and also demented in the way only a sports anime can be. every 4 minutes someone says something to the effect of "running makes me human, living is agony, and if i run exactly fast enough i can become immortal"

Not sure why I’m so exhausted sleepy when pretty much all I’ve done today is sit in a cinema for four movies…
